The best area to stay in Manapouri is the township centre itself, particularly along the lakefront.

This area is the heart of Manapouri, offering direct access to the stunning Lake Manapouri. The main road, Waiau Street, runs parallel to the lake, and you'll find most of the village's amenities within a short stroll. It's a compact and convenient location, great for those who want to be close to everything.

For couples, staying near the lakefront provides easy access to scenic walks and boat trips. You can enjoy a leisurely stroll along the shore, perhaps stopping at the local cafe for a coffee with a view, or easily embark on a cruise across the lake to explore the Doubtful Sound. It's a tranquil setting for a relaxing break.

Families will also find the township centre ideal due to its proximity to the lake and local facilities.

The best time to visit Manapouri is during the Australian winter and spring, from June to November, when the weather is generally dry and sunny.

During these months, you'll experience pleasant daytime temperatures, typically ranging from 20 to 28 degrees Celsius, making it ideal for outdoor activities like exploring the Manapouri National Park or taking boat trips on Lake Manapouri. The evenings are cooler but comfortable. This period also largely avoids the tropical wet season, which runs from December to May and can bring heavy rainfall and higher humidity.

This time of year is particularly good for families looking for comfortable conditions for sightseeing and activities. The drier weather means fewer disruptions to travel plans and more opportunities to enjoy the natural beauty of the region without the intensity of the summer heat or the frequent rain of the wet season.
