Travel Guide
St. Paul\'s Bay featuring a bay or harbour

This Mediterranean archipelago’s scenic coastline encompasses rocky cliffs and powdery beaches, behind which stand prehistoric sites and hilltop fortresses.

Plan a getaway to Malta, an archipelago in southern Europe that benefits from plenty of sunshine and superb sea views. Today, Malta is an independent nation, but a long history of foreign rulers has contributed to its diverse culture and fascinating museum collections. Delve into the intriguing history of this much fought-over country before relaxing on the sun-soaked beaches.

Start on the country’s main island, also named Malta, which is home to the capital city of Valletta. Take a sunny stroll through the Upper Barrakka Gardens for incredible views over Grand Harbour and stop by a restaurant to snack on ftira, a classic Maltese bread. Learn about the country’s wartime history at the National War Museum. Malta’s official religion is Roman Catholicism and Valletta features some stunning churches including St. John’s Co-Cathedral in the center of town.

To the north of Malta is Gozo, a rural island with picturesque coastlines and abundant natural wonders. Take time to explore Dwejra Bay, known for its rugged cliffs and rock formations. Watch as the waves crash over the arches of the Azure Window and Fungus Rock.

Comino is a tiny island located between Malta and Gozo that shouldn’t be overlooked. Here, the Blue Lagoon, a sheltered inlet famous for its sparkling waters, provides postcard-worthy photos. Sunbathe on the large rocks surrounding the cove while watching swimmers and snorkelers floating in the warm waters. Pack a picnic-style lunch or buy hot food and cool drinks from an outdoor kiosk.

Fly into Malta International Airport. From there, catch an express bus service that runs to most of Malta’s main towns. Another transportation option is to rent a car, though be aware that driving is only allowed on the islands of Malta and Gozo.

Malta’s Mediterranean climate makes it a paradise to visit year round: summers are dry and sunny while the winters are mild. This also means that the water stays warm enough to swim comfortable until October and sometimes even later.

From enchanting swimming spots to delicious Mediterranean cuisine, Malta provides everything you need to have a spectacular island vacation.
