This was not a hotel or an inn. It was one tiny room in something like an apartment building. Via the Expedia app, we were sent instructions to open the building door and the room door. Upon opening the building door, a strong odor of incense triggered an asthma attack in both of us. The room odor was even stronger. We needed to flee the room for fresh air very quickly. I opened the only window (bars on the window suggested a dangerous neighborhood) and called the telephone number listed by Expedia for the property. The man spoke no English. He came to the room in 2 minutes. I explained in my poor Spanish that we could not stay there because of asthma. I asked if a partial refund might be possible. He told me to contact Expedia. We left immediately, booked a Hampton Inn online, and took a taxi there.
