The hotel is family run and the Lady who runs it cannot do enough to make your stay enjoyable. She was very welcoming. The hotel is in a quiet, peaceful, 'country' location, even though close to the airport there was no noise whatsoever. The room was comfortable with a big double bed with an adjoining bathroom. Separate kitchen and dining facilities were available where breakfast was served and drinks could be obtained at all times.

Shalom House was decorated to a high standard, clean and homely.
The room has a keypad to unlock/lock the door so there is no need to carry a key around. It was spacious with aircon, a comfy bed, fridge/microwave/kettle which is nice to have.

The hotel was excellent, the wifi was especially excellent. I was there only for a couple of nights found the staff actively helpful. I was warned that the Saturday night there would be a concert in the stadium opposite until midnight. My room faced the stadium and it was loud in the room, but I was out most of that evening, and fortunately I went to sleep at 11pm even though the concert was still ongoing.

The Lopinot Historical Complex is the heart of the village, featuring the restored Lopinot House, a museum, and the ancestral home of Charles Joseph Lopinot. This area is located amongst hills and cocoa estates, offering a peaceful, rural setting. It's a small, spread-out community, so most accommodations will be guesthouses or eco-lodges integrated into the natural landscape.
Couples looking for a tranquil escape will appreciate staying in this area. It's great for those who enjoy nature walks, exploring local history, and experiencing traditional Trinidadian culture, such as cocoa processing and parang music, especially around the Christmas season.
When is the best time to go to Lopinot?
The best time to go to Lopinot is during the dry season, which runs from December to May.
This period offers consistently sunny days and lower humidity, making it ideal for exploring the village's natural beauty and historical sites. You'll find it more comfortable for outdoor activities like hiking through the Lopinot Historical Complex or visiting the Lopinot Caves. The weather is generally pleasant, with warm temperatures and gentle breezes.
For couples looking for a tranquil escape, visiting in January or February is particularly good. The Christmas festivities have concluded, and the peak holiday crowds have thinned out, offering a more peaceful experience while still enjoying excellent weather. It's superb for romantic strolls through the cocoa estates and enjoying the quiet charm of the village.
If you're a solo traveller interested in the local culture and history, the shoulder months of May or December can also be good. While May marks the end of the dry season, you'll still get plenty of sunshine before the heavier rains begin, often with fewer visitors.
