About this property
Historic Cabin Retreat on Beautiful Homestead
Experience the warmth of an authentic log cabin retreat on one of the region's most beautiful historic properties, where gardens bloom, fireflies dance, and tranquility comes naturally. Come let our peaceful retreat help you to relax, recharge, restore, and create new memories, new crafts, new stories, even a new connection with yourself. Jaynes cabin is situated on a beautifully preserved historic homestead where authentic log cabins, flowering gardens, and extraordinary serenity create a retreat unlike any other.
The property is part of the Gillespie Stone House homestead, built circa 1792 for Colonel George Gillespie, who came from Ireland as a young man to become a prominent Revolutionary War veteran and figure in the frontier that is now East Tennessee. John Crocket, father of frontiersman David (Davy) Crocket is known to have leased land from George Gillespie in the 1780’s.
The main house (Gillespie Stone House) was built in the early 1790s and is recognized as one of the earliest stone houses in Tennessee. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Jayne’s cabin is set apart from the main house and other cabins. It has front and side porches, and a large grassy spaces in front and back of the cabin. Guests are invited to park right outside the cabin and can access both the front and back doors easily from their car.
The property is adjacent to the Norfolk Southern trainline, and trains do pass by several times a day and night.
