We had a family suite here and really enjoyed our stay. The pool, with its small sandy 'beach', was excellent for young children, and the garden was well-maintained. Staff were very helpful: stored our luggage, made taxi reservations, replied promptly to email enquiries. Our suite was spacious, cool, clean, safe, and had everything we needed; its decor was home-like/simple, rather than luxurious, but that was fine, since who wants to spend their holiday keeping toddlers off the white linen sofa and priceless glass sculpture? The one impractical aspect of the suite was its lack of bath, especially as the shower didn't have a door and the bathroom floor was quite slippery.
Although the hotel backed on to a fairly busy road, the interior was calm and quiet. The location was great; so many of the hotels we looked at prior to booking said they were in Lazise, but were actually a long way from the old town. Palazzo della Scala was very close to the castle and, even with a 3-year-old, we had no problem walking everywhere. There was a playground nearby, and it was ten minutes' walk to the beach or the harbour. Two local restaurants were very good -- Pepe Nero, practically next door, and Botticelli's, just inside the southern city gate -- as was Classique, further down on the waterfront. The hotel's breakfast buffet was great quality, with a wide range of fresh food.
We thought Lazise was a beautiful, relaxing place for a family holiday, and Palazzo della Scala was an ideal base.
