"Somewhat mixed feelings. We arrived and the budget room we had booked was tiny and had no draw space to put clothes and only a rail to hang things. We requested a larger room and got one at an extra cost which was fine.
The location was stunning over looking a field of sunflowers (its a shame they had gone past their best. We chose the hotel as it was out of the town but had a restaurant, unfortunately it was not open on the night we arrived (Friday night!) so we had to walk the busy road...

We had a wonderful stay despite the weather being mixed. The spa was a lovely treat when sitting by the pool wasn’t appealing - although make sure you book your hour as it fills up quickly. We had a lovely evening in the bar with music and tapas - it was meant to be in the rose garden but equally lovely. Unfortunately didn’t manage to have proper dinner as didn’t book in time - the restaurant is only small. Breakfasts were a highlight already though! We had a lovely family room which was a...

Agnes was amazing. Phoned ahead to say we would be delayed and arrive after front desk closed. Quickly sent a text to me detailing room no. Room code and wi-fi code. Took pressure off us on our late flight. Next morning she gave us some free coffees as we missed breakfast. A bubbly super friendly and helpful lady. Directions, iron borrowing etc. Room clean quiet cool (41 degrees outside!)
Cleaning staff all running around motivated and efficient. Thoroughly recommended.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best area to stay in Larzac?
The best area to stay in Larzac is the central plateau, particularly around the towns of La Couvertoirade and Millau.
The Larzac plateau is a vast, elevated limestone landscape known for its open spaces, ancient Templar and Hospitaller villages, and impressive natural formations like the Gorges du Tarn. It's a rural area, so accommodations are often found in renovated farmhouses or guesthouses within or near these historic villages. The D999 and D809 are key roads that connect the main points of interest.
Couples looking for a tranquil escape and a chance to explore history will find La Couvertoirade particularly appealing. This beautifully preserved Knights Templar village is entirely pedestrianised, offering a unique step back in time. You can wander its cobbled streets, explore its fortifications, and enjoy the quiet evenings. It's an ideal base for romantic walks and discovering the region's heritage.
For families, staying closer to Millau offers a good balance of access to activities and amenities. Millau sits at the edge of the Larzac plateau and is famous for its stunning viaduct. From here, you're well-placed for exploring the Gorges du Tarn for outdoor adventures like kayaking or hiking, as well as visiting local markets and enjoying a wider selection of restaurants.
When is the best time to go to Larzac?
The best time to visit Larzac is during late spring (May-June) or early autumn (September-October) when the weather is pleasant and the landscape is at its most inviting.
During late spring, the region bursts into life with wildflowers, making it ideal for walking and cycling. The temperatures are comfortably mild, superb for exploring the natural parks and historic villages without the peak summer heat. It's a lovely time for couples who enjoy outdoor activities and scenic drives through the countryside.
Early autumn offers similarly agreeable temperatures and the added beauty of changing foliage. The harvest season also brings local markets to life with regional produce. This period is excellent for travellers interested in local gastronomy and culture, as many festivals celebrating traditional crafts and food take place.
