The best area to stay in Lamkansa is within the Médina, especially around the Bab Bou Jeloud gate and Talaa Kebira street. This area is the historic heart of Fès, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and offers a truly authentic experience. It's a labyrinth of narrow, car-free alleyways, bustling souks, and historic buildings. The main thoroughfares, Talaa Kebira and Talaa Seghira, run through the Médina, offering access to many attractions. For couples looking for a romantic and culturally rich experience, staying within the Médina is ideal. Many traditional guesthouses, known as riads, offer intimate courtyards, rooftop terraces with city views, and personalised service. You'll be within walking distance of key sights like the Chouara Tannery, Al-Attarine Madrasa, and the vibrant souks.Travellers seeking a more relaxed pace while still being close to the action might consider staying just outside the Médina walls, particularly near the Bab Bou Jeloud gate.

The best time to go to Lamkansa is during the spring (April to May) or autumn (September to October) when the weather is pleasant and comfortable for exploring.During these months, you'll experience mild temperatures, typically ranging from 15°C to 25°C, with less humidity. This makes it ideal for walking through the Fes medina, visiting historical sites, and enjoying outdoor excursions without the intense heat of summer or the cooler, sometimes rainy, days of winter. You'll find the city's gardens and courtyards particularly inviting during spring. For travellers who prefer a quieter experience and slightly cooler weather, the shoulder seasons, particularly late autumn, can be very appealing. The crowds are typically smaller than in peak spring, and the light for photography is often beautiful. However, be prepared for some cooler evenings.Summer (June to August) brings very hot temperatures, often exceeding 35°C, which can make sightseeing uncomfortable, especially in the afternoon.
