Flannery's Hotel Galway

Flannery's Hotel Galway

10/10 Excellent
"We stayed here for 1 night and had a rental car. Parking was plentiful and we were only a 10 minute drive to the city center. Staff were great and welcoming. We had the breakfast in the morning, which had all the necessary items (Irish buffet). The room was large for our family of four (two twin beds and a queen). We would stay here again. "

Connemara Coast Hotel

Connemara Coast Hotel

10/10 Excellent
"Unmatched Galway Bay views and the perfect family base! The Connemara Coast Hotel was the standout stay of our entire trip. We booked two nights here for our family of four (reserving two rooms, as larger family layouts weren't available), and check-in was a breeze. Highlights: The Views: The view across Galway Bay is simply unmatched. With the clear weather, it hardly looked real, and we even watched a cruise ship glide past the coast. Location & Day Trips: An easy drive into Galway City (budget a little time for city traffic/parking). The walking atmosphere reminded us of Temple Bar, and the Sunday open-air market with local vendors is well worth a visit. The Experience: Down time was wonderful—exploring the rugged shoreline right on the property, relaxing in the evenings, and soaking in the setting. If you are looking for breathtaking scenery, a great coastal location, and true Irish hospitality, this hotel is a must-stay. Highly recommended!"

Clybaun Hotel Galway

Clybaun Hotel Galway

10/10 Excellent
"The Clybaun Hotel is centrally located to enjoy the different neighborhoods of Galway. Great central spot for taking side trips. The room was large, beds were comfortable, and everything from the bathroom to the floors were very clean. Bring your swimsuit and workout clothes as they have a super nice pool and gym on the underground parking floor. They do support the local swim team, but you are well notified of the times they are there and it is easy to work around. They have a delicious breakfast that everyone will enjoy. This hotel also has a restaurant called the Courtyard that you should make a reservation before arriving - check photos to decide if you want in the enclosed courtyard or inside. The restaurant staff was thoughtful, knew the menu, and so good. We were able to make a reservation when we arrived at 6pm for 8:15pm, so it is worth asking. The staff throughout the hotel were professional and went that extra step to ensure our trip was going well. Easy check in and check out. HINT: 1) For Americans driving there - The Clybaun Hotel sign is as visible as the Courtyard sign. My husband and I thought there were two hotels next to each other meaning two parking areas. Nope, that is the Courtyard Restaurant. 2) You can self-park in the open-air parking lot around if the hotel and they have a below ground parking lot for free. For a new driver on the other side of the road, it can be tricky, but nice to have. We definitely enjoyed our stay."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Lackagh?
The best area to stay in Lackagh is within the village centre itself, as it offers the most convenient access to local amenities and a sense of community.Lackagh village is quite compact, with its main features clustered around the R339 road. You'll find the local church, a popular pub, and a few shops here. It's a peaceful rural setting, great for those looking to experience the Irish countryside without being too isolated.Couples looking for a relaxing escape will appreciate the quiet surroundings and the opportunity for scenic drives through the Galway countryside. The village serves as a good base for exploring the wider region, including the Wild Atlantic Way, without the hustle and bustle of larger towns. For families, staying in or very near the village centre provides easy access to essentials and a welcoming local atmosphere.
When is the best time to go to Lackagh?
The best time to go to Lackagh, County Galway, is during the summer months, particularly June, July, and August, for the most pleasant weather and a full experience.Lackagh experiences a temperate oceanic climate, meaning mild temperatures year-round but with a good chance of rain at any time. However, the summer months offer the longest daylight hours and the warmest temperatures, with averages around 15-20°C (59-68°F), making it ideal for exploring the outdoors. This period also coincides with the peak season for local events and activities in the wider Galway region. For those who enjoy outdoor activities like walking, cycling, or visiting historical sites, summer provides the best conditions. The longer days allow for more time to explore the local countryside, including nearby Lough Corrib, and to take day trips to attractions further afield like the Cliffs of Moher or the Aran Islands without the worry of early sunsets. If you prefer a quieter trip with fewer crowds and are prepared for cooler, potentially wetter weather, late spring (April-May) or early autumn (September-October) can also be a good choice. You'll still find many attractions open, and the landscape can be particularly beautiful with spring blooms or autumn colours.
