- staff are friendly
- close to shopping and dining area
- traditional style Japanese Ryokan, beautiful
Lovely rooms, wonderful staff and great location. Close to markets, restaurants and transport. Breakfast was traditional and very good. Highly recommend . Very comfortable large and clean.
The hotel room is spacious and beautifully decorated. It provides excellent amenities including a public bath, though we didn’t use, and great breakfast. It's located in a quiet part of Kyoto but with easy access to metro and walkable to the busy shopping area, imperial palace and niji castle.
This is a great location if you want to get away but still be close to the action. Trains and bus routes are all close by which is a huge plus if you're traveling to any of the shrines or bamboo forest. Nikishi market is a 10 min walk and all the hidden gem restaurants are close by. Service and staff was amazing. They went above and beyond with being accomadating and helping us foreigners. Would highly recommended
great services provided by front desk, janitory and breakfast team!
room was super clean !
there were also complimentary drinks and popsicles !!
steps away from subway station !!
Great hotel, wish there were more instructions in regards to the hotel stay but overall the staff were very friendly and accommodating. Rooms were lovely and the bath was great. They are very accommodating in regard to leaving your luggage whilst you wait for check in since it is a later check in time
Beautiful hotel at a great price. The rooms are large with tatami floors and futon bedding. Lots of space for luggage and bathrooms are very nice. The public onset is the highlight of this hotel - the hotel was not busy during my stay and we got to enjoy empty onsen in the early morning and late night. Hotel staff is cooperative and answer any questions, they even printed out gion matsuri map for us as we were confused about the route of the procession. Overall I would rate this hotel 5/5 for a budget option with a very convenient location to major areas.
We spent one night at Hotel Sugicho in Kyoto and were absolutely delighted with our stay. The room was exceptionally spacious, beautifully furnished, and had a calm, relaxing atmosphere. One of the highlights was sleeping on a traditional futon for the very first time – and to our surprise, it was incredibly comfortable! A unique experience we can highly recommend.
The breakfast was also excellent – fresh, varied, and thoughtfully prepared. The friendly service and welcoming ambiance made our stay even more enjoyable.
In summary: A wonderful stay at Hotel Sugicho. We would definitely return and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Kyoto!

Liked: Cleanliness, amenities
Decent hotel with large rooms and a nice public bath but unfortunately lacking any charme. Feels like a faceless Chinese hotel more than a Japanese Ryokan, as which it, at least compared to what a western traveler expects, doesn't classify, despite the Tatami floors and the futon beds. They are child friendly though, so I would recommend it for families like us who share a room with 1 kid.
