Hello James, I apologize that you did not enjoy your stay as much as we hope all of our guests will. As you mentioned, we are probably not the best choice for those looking for the cheapest hostel, as that is simply not what we are. We are a backpacker resort, offering more of a resort like atmosphere with large garden grounds, pool, massage hut and bar/restaurant, but with a variety of more budget friendly dorm and bungalow options than larger resorts. We try to meet right in the middle! Our menu does have some more expensive western meal options, due to many of the imported ingredients to make them being higher priced than those of your standard Thai ingredients... but we have found that most of our guests are very happy to have them as an option when they are wanting a taste of home. Of course we always have our Thai options as well which are all more reasonably priced and quite comparable to similar restaurants in the area. I am also sorry to hear that you did not have the opportunity to explore the island as much as you would like. We are on the quiet side of the island, away from the busier main town and full moon party areas, as clearly seen on the map. Renting a motorbike is most definitely the most budget friendly way to see the island, but there is still quite a lot to see and do up on this side of the island that is within walking distance or a short taxi ride away. There are many island tours available, but they are all third party and will be the same price island wide, so unfortunately the cost for those tours is just out of our control. We do thank you for taking the time to leave a review, as we believe that they are very important for helping future guests decide if we are the right place for them to stay, so we always appreciate the feedback. We try very hard to provide a welcoming and comfortable place for our guests to call home while exploring our beautiful island. As you mentioned, we are about 20 minutes from the main town and ferry, but we find it nicer to be on the quieter side of the island, away from the constant hustle and bustle of Thong Sala. There are still many restaurants, bars and shops within walking or a short driving distance, allowing guests a variety of atmospheres to explore in the area. Hello Rebecca, I am sorry to hear that you had a bad experience, but I am wondering if you are confused about the resort because we are not located on Koh Lanta? It if was here that you were so unsatisfied, then please accept my deepest apologies. We do only advertise as a 2-star Backpacker Resort, but we still always strive to provide a welcoming, clean, functional and comfortable place for our guests to rest their head. Most of the problems you have mentioned sound like pretty simple fixes that could be easily resolved if you brought them to anyone's attention? It is very difficult to fix problems that we don't know about, so we always hope that guests will bring any issues they are having to our attention and will absolutely do our very best to resolve them. Everything does tend to be a bit more expensive on the islands than the mainland, but we have tried to keep the majority of the Thai options on our menu fairly comparable in price to other, equivalent restaurants. The wide variety of western options that we offer on the menu can be a bit more pricey, but that is due to many of the ingredients required for those items being a bit more challenging and expensive to obtain on the island. We are glad that you were able to find some suitable options for you on the beach though. I do hope that you were able to experience a sunset on our beach during your stay as well, they can be absolutely magnificent! Thanks David for taking the time to review your recent stay with us at Shiralea Backpackers Resort. We are definitely a flash packers resort but we have an emphasis on providing competitively priced Backpacker style accommodation yet with the facilities of a much more expensive resort. We do have a very active bar area and it can generate quite a bit of noise at times, i do apologize if this was a inconvenience during your stay. We do host several tour company's at the resort but all of our guest are important to us and we try to create an atmosphere were everyone is made to feel welcome and can enjoy them selves. Sorry to hear you had some issues with the water pressure, being that there is no main water supply everything is pumped from a and if the 3 phase power drops as it often does the pumps wont run. I'm glad my staff were able to quickly fix it for you. Some times the bar can generate a bit of noise and i apologize if this was a disturbance during your stay. All the best Shiralea

Thank you for the feed back on your stay with us at Shiralea. We do use a card system in the resort so guest don't have to carry cash around with them. When you were here we were charging for the cards but since then we have changed the policy and they are now give free of charge. So time people make mistakes and i'm glad that my staff were able to resolve them satisfactorily. We don't clean the room every day and that was explained in the welcome speech. We do offer to clean the room at any time the key just need to be handed into any of the staff. We exchange towel at request over the bar. We do however have a fully functioning laundry/drying service whereas your clothes would have been returned to you fully washed, folded and vacuum sealed! Thanks for reviewing us. I'm glad you found us to be value for money and the resort welcoming. We aim to offer a great in-resort experience, however the island itself is quite remote and activities are spread out , so a scooter is best if you want to go and explore! Our restaurant and bar are famed for both thai and western options, so some prices are higher due to the cost of ingredients, although we believe we are in line with other establishments offering the same.
