A bit dated. We stayed in a traditional Japanese room with futons. Overall the room was great, but the futons were the hardest, least comfortable of the trip. It took most of the day to get to from Fukuoka. With bad storms, the local train service was temporarily cancelled. Given we had no car and the ground was very wet there was nothing to do but stay put. The hotel staff was very friendly and tried to help us navigate our journey back. The onsen experience was our first and was amazing. Overall the property is very dated and sleepy. The food was disappointing but the dining room views were stunning! ##### Pam Stayed 2 nights in Jul 2024 ### 10/10 Excellent #### COLIN 16 Apr 2023 Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service, amenities, property conditions & facilities This was our last stay on our 28 day holiday in Japan and was a wonderful way to finish. Our room on the 3rd floor had a wonderful view, despite Sakurajima being mostly hidden for the 3 days we were there. Staff were all very helpful and friendly and many of them spoke a little bit of English. The kaiseki dinners provided an excellent variety but an english menu would have been helpful. We experienced 2 of the 4 private onsens available on site. There was no additional fee for this, but they book out very quickly, particularly in the evening. There is a toilet and shower in the room, but the hot water is very slow to arrive, so shower at the onsen's is the recommended option.
