The garden was magical on a rainy morning. The host was lovely and very helpful. This is the property I will remember from our trip to Japan. The home is large enough for families (we were five adults). Our gracious hostess, Ms. Fujita, welcomed us with freshly prepared matcha and mochi. The machiya is spacious, spotless, and has very comfortable beds and futons. There are small handwritten cards throughout the house detailing historical information and conservation efforts. The washer/dryer combo works great. The stairs require some agility. The small garden is magical in the rain. It’s a very short walk to either the Omicho market (best seafood!) or the Kanazawa Castle. The taxi ride to and from the station is about ¥1200 (less than $10). Be sure to have the address in Japanese ready to show the cab driver.
