This rental was absolutely paradise for our family! From the moment we arrived, we knew we had found something truly special. The master bedroom was spacious and the fragrant plumeria tree just outside was a special way to savor morning coffee. The second guest bedroom was also great size, although if anyone is taller than 5’6 (which all my kids are) the additional 2 twins upstairs in the loft area are a bit snug, but workable. The outdoor living space was the crown jewel of this property. It was picturesque and functional — with seating options, two relaxing hammocks, an outdoor shower (although we didn’t end up using it bc it was shutoff) and the grill! Not only was it beautiful and tranquil, but it offered wonderful flexibility with both sunny and shaded areas throughout the day. We found ourselves spending most of our time outside, taking advantage of every option available. The rocky shoreline and tide pools provided endless exploration opportunities that captivated us each day. And the sunsets left us absolutely speechless. They were the kind of magical moments that photos simply can’t capture.We genuinely hated to leave this slice of paradise. This vacation has created lasting memories for our entire family that will be treasured for years to come. If I could give more than 5 stars I would!! Location is amazing right on the water. You can see whales and turtles right from the balcony. Also very close to downtown Kona and several beaches nearby. Views of the water are fantastic from kitchen and bedroom and massive balcony. Nice open lot next door too with hammocks, chairs and grill. Appreciated access to all the snorkel equipment and beach gear. Only downside is no air conditioning. From reading the reviews it seems it might get an upgrade in 2023 but I want to say it was super clean and comfortable to stay there. The location is perfect for doing all the awesome activities the coast has to offer while being a little ways out of the busy part of town. Most importantly, we arrived in a storm, and we lost power at some point the next afternoon. Kealin was in contact with us immediately to check if we knew where the flashlights were and even brought battery operated candles to us! Fortunately power was restored in a few hours (the ocean outside the house was wild and wonderful to watch during the storm!) and we enjoyed the rest of our stay. That being said, let me explain my ratings. I rated the cleanliness of the property as a 4 instead of 5 was simply because of the smell within the property. There was a stranger sewer type smell which must just come with the location. That being considered, I would still stay here again because it was such a perfect place to stay otherwise. I rated the accuracy of the listing as a 3 because the listing stated it had air conditioning, only to find the air conditioning was broken. There were 2 portable units installed, but the home still got up to 88 degrees every afternoon which was more than a bit uncomfortable. Come early morning the temperature in the house got down to 73 degrees which made it so sleeping was fine thank heavens. I rated the location/neighborhood as a 4 because although it is an extremely convenient location, it is right off a very busy street. There were a few nights where the street noise was bothersome, but understandably this comes with having a convenient location. So all-in-all I gave the property a rating of 4 mostly due simply to the lack of air conditioning. Other than that the home was beautiful, the furnishings beautiful, the landscaping beautiful, the kitchen very well stocked, the amenities provided (like snorkel gear, etc) fantastic, the property manager very attentive… really (besides the air conditioning) a perfect place to stay and would definitely recommend as long as you can handle the afternoon heat. ##### Jocelyn M. Step out onto the patio to find your favorite place to chill and watch and listen to the waves. So many cute nooks to relax in around the large outdoor area. Be sure to make your way to the tide pools where there’s so many fish and little living creatures…it mesmerizes you. Easy access to the main strip to go shopping and explore Kona. They have everything you need from plenty of towels, cooking needs…lots of spices first aid…soaps, body wash beach chairs etc. we enjoyed ourselves thorough here and would go back. Our only minor complaint was at the time of our stay the air conditioning was not working and although they did have plenty of fans and two standing cooling units…it wasn’t nearly enough to cool the place down. At times it was unbearable…it was hard to escape the heat but we did after a bit. Please don’t let this discourage your stay….everything else about this beautiful place is definitely worth the stay. ##### Lisa M. This property had the best location I’ve ever had. Mornings and evenings were really glorious. The only issue, and we were pre-warned, was that the AC was being replaced in 2023\. Being right on the ocean provides opportunities to snorkel right in front of the house (enter on the side); enjoy turtles in the tidal pool eating seaweed; relax by day and enjoy the sunset and stars each evening. The photos accurately capture the property, however understate the whole: the property is 2-3 times as wide as surrounding properties providing lots of space and privacy. Classic architecture. Nice touches in the garden and interior. Great location for trips to explore all HI. Well appointed kitchen and convenient to restaurants or delivery. You may want to check with owners on the status of the AC for MBR. Owners are working towards a complete upgrade of systems in 2023\. All in all an amazing place. I hope to return. ##### John T. A little rough around the edges Overall, this is a very good, well apportioned property in a superior location. Pros: - Location!!! Amazing spot right on the water - Full compliment of beach gear including goggles, snorkels, towels, chairs, etc - Close to beaches and shops and mid-point to southern destinations - Lots of space - Beautiful lanai and outdoor spaces - Parking - Well stocked kitchen Cons: - A/C was under construction and replaced with 2 pretty ineffective portable units. Master bedroom was a stuffy hot experience and coming home in the afternoon the family room was 89 degrees. Owner said to open all doors and windows but that could only do so much in August. For a house with A/C in the listing, this was pretty unacceptable. We were only notified of this 3 days before our arrival (almost a month after they took our last nonrefundable payment). Ceiling fan in the family room was also broken. So hot and ultimately we were glad to leave. - Interior described as “rustic”, but just a bit dated and brown / dusty ##### Bob K. This stay was amazing. Mahalo Hale Kale! Gorgeous views, amazing lanai and multiple outdoor areas. Snorkeling access outside the house was the best. Hale Kale had everything we needed. Boogie boards, snorkeling gear, towels etc were all available. It was amazing to go to sleep to the sound of the ocean each night. I brought my family here after living here12 years ago. It was in such a centralized location, had an amazingly big backyard, access to tide pools, and it was amazing having such a close view of the ocean.
