The Jardin Royal was created under the supervision of Louis Mondran in 1754 and remains one of the most popular green spaces in Toulouse. Set in the city centre between the River Garonne and the Canal du Midi, this peaceful enclave is located just to the west of the Museum de Toulouse and south of Saint-Etienne Cathedral. On its eastern edge a bridge carries visitors to the adjacent Grand Rond, with its central showpiece fountain, while the Jardin des Plantes – the oldest public park in Toulouse – is just across the road.
