"This is a roadside hotel attached to a restaurant with some nice areas to sit and relax. The owner and staff were super friendly, and the rooms were nice and clean. There was no air conditioning, but they provided two fans that did the job. We spent most of our time visiting Pamplona and Vitoria, so we mainly used the hotel as a place to sleep. Overall, we had a very good experience at Aritzalko. Recommended!"

"We had a brief single night stop over at Hotel Dolorea. Booked through Expedia, which seemed to cause some confusion for the staff upon arrival but after some investigation by the staff our booking was found. We booked a shared room for a family of four. Room was air conditioned which was a welcome relieve from the near 40C outside. Room was spacious with a very generous sized bathroom, beds were comfy and water was in the mini fridge. Hotel Sukha

10/10 Excellent

"Good basic hotel with large clean rooms."

Andamur San Roman

8/10 Good

"Stayed here while walking the Camino Ignaciano. Surprisingly clean, comfortable room for a highway trucker hotel, not too noisy, convenient restaurant downstairs, would recommend. Official Camino route (San Roman de San Milan) only 1 km away. Only regret was no bathtub, only shower but very good and reasonable price."

Room was air conditioned which was a welcome relieve from the near 40C outside. Room was spacious with a very generous sized bathroom, beds were comfy and water was in the mini fridge. There was no kettle in the room. Room/hotel were accessed using a key code which worked well when returning from an evening meal. A bonus is the private parking in the hotels subterranean car park for 10 euros a night. All in all a good experience, staff were friendly and helpful. Beasain is a delightful town for an evening stroll with some interesting historical features."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Ibarguren?

The best area to stay in Ibarguren is the Old Town, known locally as Alde Zaharra, for its historic charm and central location.

Alde Zaharra is the heart of Ibarguren, characterised by its narrow, winding cobblestone streets, traditional Basque architecture, and numerous pintxo bars. It's largely a pedestrian area, making it very walkable, and many of the city's main attractions, such as the Cathedral de San Pedro and the Mercado de la Ribera, are within easy reach. The area around Calle del Correo is particularly top for its culinary offerings.

Couples will find Alde Zaharra particularly appealing. The historic setting provides a romantic backdrop for strolls, and the abundance of high-quality pintxo bars and restaurants offers endless opportunities for delightful evenings. Many boutique hotels in this area offer a more intimate and personalised experience.

For solo travellers, Alde Zaharra offers a convenient and engaging base. The ease of walking to sights, the friendly atmosphere of the pintxo bars, and the frequent cultural events make it simple to explore and meet others.

When is the best time to go to Ibarguren?

The best time to visit Ibarguren is during the spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October) months when the weather is pleasant and comfortable for exploring.

Spring in Ibarguren offers mild temperatures, typically ranging from 15°C to 20°C, and the countryside is lush and green. This is an excellent time for outdoor activities like hiking in the nearby Urkiola Natural Park or exploring the local vineyards. The region also sees fewer crowds compared to the peak summer months, making it ideal for those who prefer a more relaxed experience.

Autumn brings similarly agreeable temperatures, usually between 18°C and 23°C, and the landscape is painted with beautiful autumnal colours. This season is particularly good for food and wine enthusiasts, as it coincides with the grape harvest and many local food festivals. It's also a great time for couples to enjoy romantic strolls through the historic towns and countryside without the summer heat.

While summer (July and August) is popular for its warm weather, with temperatures often reaching 25°C to 30°C, it can be quite busy with tourists.
