The Acorn - Award Winning Barn Conversion In Hope Village Near To Castleton
The Barn at Mead Farm is a truly special place on the doorstep of the Pennine Way. With views throughout the Hope Valley, and the iconic Lose Hill, Win Hill and Kinder Scout range right on your doorstep it really is the perfect place to come and get away from it all.
The Barn has been lovingly rebuilt in the original stone to reflect its history but with the benefits of modern living within. The bedrooms feature vaulted ceilings with exposed beams and trusses. The ground floors are fully tiled with underfloor heating, with traditional radiators in the bedrooms. The original barn has been divided into two holiday barns, the smaller being The Acorn which sleeps two and the larger being The Oaks which will sleep five, all with ensuite bedrooms.
Light and airy with a contemporary feel, The Barn is an ideal place to relax after a long day exploring the area whether walking, cycling or sightseeing and taking in the many local attractions. The Barn is totally non-smoking, as are the outdoor patio and terrace.
The Barn has central heating and is fully equipped with everything you will need for a home away from home. We provide all towels and bedlinen.
There are paved patio areas to the front and rear of The Barn, both enjoying superb views across the Hope Valley. There is a sheltered patio with picnic tables for the summer months where you can enjoy views over Win Hill. Guests are also welcome to explore the private farmland where we have a flock of sheep grazing with their lambs in the spring season.
There is off road parking provided in front of The Barn and lockable storage for bikes and other outdoor equipment.
Mead Farm is situated in the heart of The Peak National Park with easy access to walks in every direction. With views to both Win Hill and Lose Hill, it is in an area of outstanding beauty, but within easy reach of local amenities.
The village of Hope has a good selection of local shops and pubs. There is a fridge and freezer in both cottages, and plenty of storage space for groceries.
The railway station is about a mile away from the village with regular trains between Manchester and Sheffield. There is a bus route which runs through to Sheffield from Castleton.
Castleton is the busiest village in the area with plenty of places of interest to visit - The Blue John Mine, Speedwell Cavern, Treak Cliff Cavern, Peveril Castle to name just a few. There are several interesting shops selling jewellery and gifts and a variety of places to eat and drink.
The Barn is a short walk from The Cheshire Cheese Inn just along Edale Road. The Cheese has all the warmth of a traditional English pub with a friendly welcome good food and drink and a great atmosphere. It has a regular folk music night on the first Thursdays of the month which is a real local institution and great fun.
The Acorn is a one bedroom barn comprising a featuring a king-sized bed, ensuite shower room, open plan living room and kitchen.
It has a fitted kitchen with electric hob and oven, dishwasher, microwave, fridge/freezer, toaster, kettle and cafetiere. We provide an iron and ironing board and all of the crockery, pans and utensils required for your stay.
There is a relaxing open plan lounge/dining area with flat screen TV/DVD and wi-fi internet access.
The bathroom is ensuite with a large walk in shower cubicle, toilet and hand wash basin. Bed linen and towels are included.
There is also a lockable store for bikes or other outdoor equipment.
We also have a second holiday barn here on Mead Farm called The Oaks which sleeps 5 people. The barns can be booked separately or together allowing up to 7 people to be comfortably accommodated.

This property was perfect for the two of us and superbly located for walking and mountain biking. The owner was super friendly and helpful too. Many thanks!
This place is lovely and in an absolute perfect location, we love the Peak District and we were very lucky as the weather was amazing fir this time of year. The only thing that stopped me giving this property 5* is that its a late check in at 5pm (would have expected around 3pm) and a very early check out at 9:30am. Normal check outs for such a late check in would be around 10:30am/11am
Lively stay, the property has everything you could need for a nice break in the high peaks. We were a bit last minute in booking so our direct interaction with the property manager was minimal but we were warmly welcomed upon arrival.
The view are excellent from the property and some great walks/hike right on the door step no need to drive.
To comfort level in the property is fantastic and the bee is a proper bed …. Unlike the rocks you get in chain hotels.
Only bit of critical feed back is to watch out for the door handle latch in the bathroom it sticks out a bit and the space between that and the bed is not a lot and I caught my arm on it a few time which did hurt and left a bruise.
But will defo be looking to book in for next year!!
Wonderfully clean and well-equipped property. Perfect for walking in the Peak District National Park straight from the property. You can walk into the village for evening meals (recommend you book as it gets busy).
We had a loveley long weekend at Acorn Barn. Cosy and warm with everything we needed including secure bike storage. Fantastic location with lots of options for walks and bike rides right from the doorstep. We will definitely be back!
Had a great time staying at the Acorn. Lovely property and very well equipped. Very good location with pub, a few shops and plenty of walks on the doorstep. Very friendly host.
We had a lovely 2 nights away at Acorn cottage. The host Chris was so accommodating and friendly. The accomodation was spotless and perfect for our needs.
Would highly recommend
Chris and Tanya are excellent hosts and their property reflects their conscientious attention to detail throughout. COVID precautions inspire confidence and the location is great. We certainly hope to return.
This was our second stay at the Acorn, the last was 4 years ago.
Everything was as good as last time even during Covid.
Fantastic property, great location and Chris very friendly and helpful.
Our go to place when staying in the Peaks.
We had a lovely ten days in this beautiful barn in the wonderful valley of Hope, with great walks on either side of the accommodation. The barn has been beautifully restored and is very well maintained. Chris was very helpful and friendly.
Owner Chris met us on arrival, very welcoming and gave us great info regarding walks. Lovely welcome pack and freshly home baked scones - thank you Tanya. Cottage was very comfortable, clean and nicely furnished . Everything we needed. We ate at Old Hall and Cheshire Cheese pub, both very enjoyable. Thoroughly enjoyable stay, recommend the area and Acorn cottage
We just finished spending a week in The Acorn. Upon arrival we met Chris, the owner. He was very friendly and provided a lot of local information on groceries, dining, etc. The Acorn is one of two apartments in the old barn. It was immaculate and cozy. The kitchen was well appointed with a variety of cooking and dining utensils. The apartment was true to the photos on the website.
This is definitely 1st class accommodation in the Peak District. If you are visiting the Hope Valley I would absolutely recommend The Acorn!
Property was of a very high standard. Chris was very friendly and helpful.
We had a very relaxing time.
Would book again if we were in the ares again.

A comfortable property in an excellent position for walking the dales and exploring the local region
We greatly enjoyed our few days in ‘Acorn’ a comfortable property for the two of us with everything we could need in a home from home. Chris met us on arrival with some of Tanya’s freshly cooked scones, the couple are extremely friendly and helpful.
We spent a day walking in the hills around the property, it was a real bonus to be able to leave and return to the barn without any journey to reach our route.
But we were also able to explore all the pretty Derbyshire villages and to spend a day in Sheffield within a very short car journey.
All in all an excellent property that we can wholeheartedly recommend. We look forward to returning in the future.

5 Star stay in Hope Valley
The Barn is beautiful, stylishly furnished and decorated & very warm and cosy. It's also very peaceful but only a 10 minute walk into Hope Village for pubs, restaurants and a few little shops. The freshly baked bread and warm scones on arrival were a really nice touch and very much enjoyed after a long journey. There are some great walks of varying difficulty directly from the cottage. Plenty of parking and good facilities for washing and hosing down mud covered walking gear. A couple of days we were there were really too wet to walk but it was lovely just to chill out in the really comfortable cottage. Would definitely recommend and I'm sure we'll be back in the future

Wonderful Acorn Cottage
We had a fantastic week staying at The Acorn Cottage.
On our arrival we were warmly greeted by Tanya and Chris who made us feel very welcome while we unpacked the car and took delivery of our shopping. They explained a few things to us and left us to enjoy our stay, but told us that they would be there for us if we required anything and could contact Chris on his mobile if needed too. Inside the Cottage we were spoilt by a lovely welcome pack from Chris & Tanya too which was very much appreciated.
The Cottage is 1st class and very well equipped, we wanted for nothing. It is very comfortable and cosy too. It is ideally sited for some great walks and exploration of the area. The first couple of days of our stay we had a good blanket of snow which made everything all the more magical and scenic. It was always lovely to come back to the Cottage after one of our adventures to a nice hot shower and it’s comfortable furniture. We had some great meals cooked in the kitchen and also ate out too during our stay. The washing machine in the boiler house was also a nice touch to keep your clothes clean. We would highly recommend a stay here in this luxury Cottage, we didn’t want to go home at the end of our week, it is so nice ++++++ Thank you
