Visit Hondarribia

Visit Hondarribia and discover all the treasures that make it one of the most charming towns in the Basque Country.

Hondarribia, a natural border with France, has been a strategic point throughout the history of the Iberian Peninsula, and this is reflected in its walled structure, unique in Gipuzkoa. Don’t miss our offers for cheap trips to Hondarribia and learn all about the wonders that await you in this small coastal town. Enter through the gate of Santa María to reach the old town, and you will be welcomed by a 8 ft statue of a traditional lumberjack. Explore the walled old town with its cobbled streets, and on Kale Nagusia, the main street, you can glimpse typical Basque houses with flowery wooden balconies, and even baroque buildings, such as the Town Hall, dating from the 18th century, or Palacio Zuloaga, nowadays a municipal library and historical archive.

At the end of Kale Nagusia, at the highest part, you will find Plaza de Armas with the Castle of Emperor Carlos V, a stone fortification built at the end of the 10th century that is now a Parador . If you plan your trip for September, opposite the castle you can see the traditional Alarde, where the groups representing the old districts or guilds of the city gather in the square.

The busiest area is the La Marina district, which you can visit with our package holidays to Hondarribia. Known for the picturesque fishermen’s houses and the lively atmosphere of the bars and restaurants in this neighbourhood, you can discover the local cuisine, with traditional dishes and delicious pinchos, in addition to gastronomic innovations brought to you by famous Basque chefs. Walk along Paseo de Butrón, also known as Kai Zaharra, and admire the Cantabrian Sea, the estuary of the River Bidasoa and the Bay of Txingudi with the town of Hendaye (France) across the bay. The pièce de résistance will be a refreshing swim at its beautiful beach, where you can even practise your favourite water sports.

Everything you need for an idyllic holiday, with our deals for a flight plus hotel to Hondarribia.
