"Hotel was very shabby and in need of major refurbishment. Dusty bedroom and dirty bathroom. Putting that aside it was very cheap and so didn’t expect it to be five star rating. It served its purpose and on the plus side the lady’s (French) on reception were very pleasant and helpful. Breakfast was cheap at £5. With a bit of updating this could be very nice"

"Bedroom and bathroom were good size. Comfortable bed and brilliant shower. Room was clean and well maintained but could not open a window at night as we had patio doors opening onto the car park. Air-conditioning was available. Breakfast selection was reasonable but service to get coffee slow. The bar and restaurant areas need an upgrade as tables and soft furnishings looking very shabby. Lovely patio looking out onto the golf course, very relaxing. However, there must have been a lot of moisture in the foam seat cushions as the rear of my shorts was rather wet! We arrived in the middle of an event which was very loud and had been set up outside one of our rooms. Not ideal when we had young children. The manager did listen to our concerns and manage to resolve the issues."

"I was in a single room- number 7- and it was so quiet and peaceful- can honestly say the best night sleep I have ever had in a hotel. Room was small but perfectly formed. Will definitely return"

"I was very disappointed with this booking. We were moved to Royal Clifton Hotel due to no family room available and they made a mistake of booking. That was disappointing and Royal Clifton Hotel room was not clean, window was broken, room was full of dust and manager informed that he can't move me to another room due to no rooms available. Disappointed stay. Room was full of dust. House keeping staff were cleaning out room while we were in the room. Highly dissatisfied customer"

"I can say nothing but good about this place. The room was clean and very well laid out for us: comfortable beds, lovely, plush towels, individual toiletries and a powerful shower. Aytach is an excellent host, and I will definitely consider staying here again if I come to Southport."
