This 2 bedroom, 1.5 bath rental is at one with all the beautiful foliage that Highlands has to offer. With vaulted ceilings, airy décor, and a big, beautiful bank of windows, its common areas are flooded with morning light and a stunning view of mother nature. Also, enjoy our canoe on Mirror Lake. The Location: Vale Cottage is located within the Highlands, NC town limits on Dog Mountain. It's just far enough from the beaten path that guests are one with nature but only 2 miles to Main Street and the center of Highlands shopping, dining, and nightlife. The Property: Vale Cottage is a carriage house that is located on a 2+ acre wooded property. Sitting at roughly 50 feet from the main house, Vale Cottage has a privacy wall and is elevated so guests can relax in the solitude of their own cozy space. The Cabin: Vale Cottage is newly renovated in 2017 and has all wood ceilings, rustic wood beams, soaring 15' ceilings, and tons of natural light in the common areas. It has a screened porch that overlooks the beautiful wooded yards. Guests enjoy custom cabinetry in the kitchen, reclaimed vanities in the baths, and a NC slate walk-through shower. The Layout: Access to Vale Cottage is through the cozy screened porch with rocking chairs for two. Guests enter into the large open common area that houses the kitchen with island seating for two, dining table for 4, and the cozy living room. To the right off the common areas are doors that lead to both queen bedrooms. The bathrooms are accessible from both bedrooms and share a shower, while each having their own vanity and toilet area. The Area: Highlands, NC is the premier mountain destination in the Southeast. Lined with shopping, dining, museums and galleries, the bustling mountain village centering around Main Street is straight from a Norman Rockwell painting. Previously a summer/fall hotspot, it's quickly becoming a year-round destination. At 4,118 feet, it's one of the few temperate rain forests in North America, bringing botanists and nature lovers from all over the world. Highlands is also a mecca for outdoor enthusiasts. With an abundance of opportunities for biking, hiking, horseback riding, tubing, canoeing, fly fishing, and whitewater rafting, adventure-seekers will not find a more beautiful backdrop. The Details: The living room and both bedrooms have flat screen TV's with cable and wifi. The kitchen is stocked with general kitchen essentials. All of our cabins are pet friendly with prior approval and a nominal pet fee. Vale Cottage is a carriage house, meaning it is over a garage for the main house. Renters have full privacy. Don't you appreciate when things are actually BETTER than expected? Thank you for another great stay in another Elevate Highlands Cottage. From our "easy peasy" after hours check-in, to the oohhh so comfy linen & mattress, oh yes, they have walking sticks, to the absolutely perfect weather (Kristy, how do you do it???), our stay was simply refreshing. I think this is our third trip staying here. The cottage is conveniently located minutes from downtown, hiking trails and waterfalls. It’s a great place to escape the heat of summer. It is new, clean and they go the extra mile. The sheets are soft, towels are plush and decor very peaceful and tasteful. The screen porch with rockets is private and perfect place to enjoy nature. It feels like you are in the mountains but you are only 2 miles from downtown. The living space is perfect. It's a 2 bedroom (beds are very comfortable) there are 2 half baths and one very cool shower (tile floor to ceiling and it's really a shower room). Decorations are perfect, couch very comfortable, kitchen with more than we needed but could host a dinner (we did cook in 3 times and needed nothing that wasn't already there for our use). Bill and Faye were wonderful. Our dog had plenty of walking places, she loved her time maybe more than we did, and Bill and Faye were very nice to her. This is a place that we will return to actually as soon as we can get away. Highly recommend for anyone that wants the best of both worlds at a reasonable price. ##### Neely & Jennings L. The property is beautiful and very comfortable. The mountain top location has great views. We even saw wild turkeys while we were there. The location is minutes from everything in Highlands, but in a calm and quiet spot. The dual bathroom with a Jack and Jill shower was perfect for anybody who wants to share a cabin, because each room has its own toilet and shower access. Would definitely stay again! ##### Matthew T. It is a very comfortable two bedroom apartment above the garage on a beautiful mountain property with great views of the trees and mountain range off in the distance. The finishes, supplies and amenities are top notch making for a relaxing getaway with everything you need to feel like home. It is also only a 10 minute drive to Highlands and 25 mins to Cashiers, making it a great base camp for daily excursions. Kristy's communication was thorough and check-in and out was easy.
