"We have stayed here many times and the hotel never disappoints"

"I stayed here for one night while walking Hadrian's Wall with my son. The location is great with peaceful views of the river and bridge from the gardens and dining room. If I was doing the walk again, I would have a day's rest here. Our room was quiet and what you would expect from a midrange hotel. The place was obviously popular with walkers."

"We stayed here one night while walking Hadrian's Wall. The place was nice, though a bit pricey. However, there is little competition and the place was full, so I assume it's demand led pricing. Our room had a noisy kitchen extraction fan nearby, but at least it was switched off at about 9pm so we weren't troubled through the night."

"Hotel is run by James and Susan with some additional staff. The check in was quick and friendly, our room clean with view of the river, good shower. We ate twice in the evening and food was good. Breakfast was in the Admiral's room which was well decorated, bright and atmospheric. The building dates back to 1422 and has had several extensions and repurposed from the original court house to an Admiralty rest house to hotel and pub. The external fabric could do with some maintenance and decoration. Would book again."

"We had a lovely stay here. Our room was a good size, as was the bathroom, including a jacuzzi bath. We enjoyed the little extras, such as fruit and cookies and bottled water. The bed was really comfortable and we had everything we needed. The hotel is in a good location to enjoy Hadrians wall and the roman forts, also the Sycamore Gap walk. The food and service at breakfast and dinner was very good. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. There is also a star gazing observatory on site, which we have enjoyed on a previous visit."

"I love the County Hotel have stayed there many times. Fabulous friendly staff. The lunch menu is varied and delicious and the breakfast is great with local ingredients. You are made to feel so welcome. We stayed in room two which was lovely, with a fab bathroom. Only problem I found as someone with arthritis is the quite deep 3 stairs leading to that particular room. I think a small handrail would be helpful. Also what happened to complementary water in the room? Apart from that I would recommend The County 100%. Well done everyone."
