my husband (a wildlife biologist and surfer), son (16-months, walking/running everywhere, getting into everything), and i spent a delicious week at pineapple cottage. we used it as home base to explore the north side of maui. as soon as we walked in to the cottage, we felt a deep sigh of relief, and as we looked around, we agreed: WE SCORED! pineapple cottage was spotlessly clean, effortless, comfortable, and had all the home-like things you want while traveling (if you're that type of traveler). a large supply of towels, a fantastic shower, a beautiful and very cookable kitchen, a handful of staples (olive oil, salt & pepper), great fiestaware dishes, etc.
steve and ivy set us up with their much-talked about banana bread (oh my god), a bag of maui coffee (woot!) and a box of local chocolates, plus a priceless list of their favorite spots. they always replied promptly to any questions we had, and when we finally met them, we thought: oh right, this is why this place feels like home.
not to mention, the house was great for our 16-month-old son, especially the back deck which was fenced in with a railing with rails close enough together, and no splinters in the deck, so that it became a giant play room for him. and then became the perfect spot for our happy hours.
finally, sleeping was such a treat (despite 16-month old): we left the windows open and loved the sound of banana leaves and the river down below. we miss it, but will be back.
(ps - i hate to write such a good review for fear we'll never again be able to stay at this sweet little spot! of course, it might be our friends filling it up as we've already passed along the info to so many.)
