Hi Jan Thanks for your review and nice comment about our accommodation. We don't normally respond to reviews, but thought we may need to point out a couple of things for the benefit of other guests. The Church Bistro is run independently of The Church Accommodation and as such we do not dictate their opening hours. Hahei is a very small town and very quiet in winter. I'm sure you can appreciate the rationale for The Church Bistro choosing to not be open all year round. A cursory glance at either our website, or The Church Bistro's website, would have shown that the The Church Bistro does, (and always has) closed for the winter and that it is best to contact them directly to see when they expect to reopen. We base our advertising and marketing on our cottages, gardens, ambiance, staff and location. The fact that there is a restaurant in the same location is an added bonus, not a feature we would feel the need to be 'deceitful' about. Especially since all eating establishments in Hahei are within walking distance of The Church Accommodation, and one another. Again, thanks for your nice comment about our accommodation.

We tried desperately hard to give you all the information you needed via email before check in but as you arrived very late we were not able to greet you, nor would any other motel in Hahei have been either. Your door was designed so you are able to exit from the inside in case of emergency and is locked from the outside to stop access. We take pride in cleaning our rooms and bathrooms to a high standard and as you only decided to spend less than 12 hours with us we feel your review is pretty harsh given you were hardly here at all. There are photos online (on Expedia where you booked) of the rooms clearly showing the decor and the style of the Garden Studio so you cannot claim you did not see what you were booking. Our only animals are birds which are quiet at nighttime and yes there are a few crickets you may have heard in he gardens, but we advertise we have gardens as well. We suggest you book a larger Cottage next time as you chose the smallest and most economical one for your brief stay. Good luck in New Zealand.
