A magical sight! Pink waters and blue sky, It was like sunset reversed; a feast for eyes! There are plenty of colorful salt lakes near Las Coloradas/Rio Lagartos in the Yucatan peninsula. It is just 2 hours drive away from Chichén Itzá and around 3 hours from Cancun. Public transport is scarce in this part of Mexico. We took a rental car and it was an easy and comfortable journey for us :) Once we reached Las Coloradas, we were welcomed by giant white salt mountains. The restaurants don’t take reservations, so it is easy to get into them. At peak times there may be a wait, but the food is so good in all of them that it’s worth it. Even the buffet has good food (yum, chilaquiles!). The main pool has a taco bar and plenty of people bringing drinks. The back pool has a hamburger and hotdog bar and drinks bar, but didn’t bring you drinks. The only thing I wasn’t as thrilled with was the pools. The main pool facing the ocean (and sunshine) was the activity pool, with the constant loud music, aerobics classes, contests, and lots of kids….The other pool was quieter, but faced the street with its noise, was next to the children’s play area, so it also had lots of kids, and it is shady until the sun comes overhead more. The ocean here is nice, usually not too rough to go in. As in all the resorts, all the staff were excellent, hardworking, and friendly.
