We were just a short walk down from Colchester Castle and High Street, where we could find a wide range of pubs, restaurants, and shops. The city centre train station was just a short walk away as well. Thank you to our host for the awesome check-in and also for the lift to the "other" train station for our trip back into London. "The hotel was lovely with some good old character and a real country pub feel about in the bar and terrace area. The staff were very nice & professional at all times and nothing seemed to be a problem for them when asked for or of them. Breakfast was delicious with a good selection & choice apart from Black Pudding (LOL). The only criticisms that I have are, being in room 45, the shower was pretty awkward to use because of where the shower head is mounted and had to position ourselves awkwardly to stand under it, would be better mounted on the wall directly above the taps and some of the room doors on corridors could do with a lick or two of paint, especially the room doors walking through the glass corridor between the rooms and the bar etc. Apart from that, I thought everything else was excellent and would recommend and will definitely stay again when back down visiting my friends, but will use my Blue Light discount next time now that we know this is available, which wasn't advertised at the time of booking."

The rooms were a very good size and clean, which made for a comfortable night's sleep. A great place to stay, and will stay again!"

"Everything about our stay was excellent. The room and breakfast were perfect just what we had hoped they would be for our stay. All the staff were lovely and helpful. We didn’t use the spa and pool etc but will definitely do so on our next stay. We left feeling relaxed."
