We stayed at the Starfish Cayo Loco house for our honeymoon at the end of June and had such an amazing time. First of all, Cayo Loco is as described! As in, YES, the views from the house are that amazing, YES, the place is that clean and tastefully decorated, YES, you are just steps from an AMAZING atlantic beach and five minute drive from a PERFECT Caribbean beach! Maureen goes out of her way to make sure you are comfortable in the house upon arrival, gives you some tips and ideas for places to go, and then she leaves you to it! The perfect host!
The house had plenty of towels, beach chairs, dishes, etc. There was shampoo and soap in the shower. Everything was clean. The screens work really well to keep bugs out and although there is A/C, we never had to use it (in the middle of summer) because the breeze through the screens is constant and cooling. We even got to witness a spectacular Caribbean storm on the first night which was very cool. The beach out front is stunning. There are some slightly rocky parts right in front of the house but go 30 yards in either direction and the sand is smooth and swimming pristine. The water is completely see through. Plus the rock formations and coral are great for snorkeling and seeing fish! If you want absolutely still and clear water, drive 5 minutes to the old Coco di Mama resort on the Caribbean side and hang out in perfect Caribbean water with no one around.
Another huge pull of the house is LOCATION. It is only a 5 minute drive to Governor's Harbour and 5 minutes to the airport. You can walk to the Sky Beach Club and chill in the infinite pool swim up bar, though I'd recommend driving there along the access road. The fresh sand can be a chore to walk all that way through. GH is a nice town and it has groceries, a coffee shop, and our favorite restaurant, 1648. All you need really. But even better, if you want to explore north or south, it doesn't matter because you're right in the middle! We drove all the way to the Harbour Town dock in about an hour and all the way south to Cape Eleuthera in a little over an hour. That's pretty much the length of Eleuthera so for whatever you want to see, Cayo Loco is a good base. Just make sure you have the cell phone with you that Maureen provides in case of car trouble. On that note, you will definitely want a 4 wheel drive for your stay and try to get a reliable one.
Thank you Maureen and Alan for a great trip. We hope to be back in Eleuthera soon!
