Oh man this place was horrible!

The guy at the front counter was friendly enough, but the customer experience and the hotel was terrible!!! I mean the walls are paper thin and you can hear EVERYTHING!!! To start I booked a single queen room with a Jacuzzi tub (or at least that's what the image said I was booking) and when I got there he wouldn't give it to me because he said that's not what I booked. I told him then he should change the images on hotels.ca because it is misrepresentation. If I would have known that was not what I was getting I would have never booked here. Then to top it off he refused to give me the room I booked (a single queen) because he said it is easier for the maid to keep everyone in one area. EXCUSE ME? Last time I checked you give your customers what they booked! All the rooms didn't have the heat on. I arrived and it was frigid in the room. I mean the floor was so cold I had to wear my runners to keep my feet warm. You would think they would keep the heat on for arriving guests to at least warm up the place. I decided to leave for 2 hours in the hopes it would warm up and it never did. I had a terrible sleep. You got the cheapest soaps, the first room they put me in was dirty and had sticky rice all over the dresser... I could go on but you get the point. For what you pay this place was a complete rip off! I was furious!!!

Room wasn't cleaned properly, there was old food in the fridge. The walls are very thin and you can hear everyone. The boardwalk had very slippery patches of ice that I removed. For the price, there's better in the area.

It was a Kitchenette and there was 1 fork 1 spoon 1 knife. The pans were NOT washed. The ice cube tray was dirty The top plate had bugs on it. The room was freezing cold -12 outside. We used the stove and oven to warm the room.

Room was ice cold when I walked in. Heater didn't seem to be working so I asked the front desk to give me another room. No different in the other rooms. They gave me an electric heater that after an hour started to warm the room. Not the cleanest of bathrooms as there was hair on the floor and on the bedding. Can't say I'd stay here again.

Beds are ridiculously high. There were no bedside lamps or pictures on the wall. The room was clean but uninviting.

Think twice

It was the only place that we could find in that area. We went to Banff and all the hotels around Banff were full or it costs over $500 a night. We have no choice so we decided to stay in Golden for a night. This is a very old motel and most of the rooms were for CN workers. There is no free breakfast. We traveled in August and it was hot, so we want to get some ice from their ice machine, however, there was only one ice machine at this place and it was broken. So we took the ice bucket to the office to see if they have the ice machine in the office, unfortunately, there is no ice machine in the office. Alternatively, they have the travel size cooler with ice in it and the front counter person just used our bucket to get some ice out of their cooler. We don't know if it is clean to put it into our drink or not, so we just used the ice to cool our pop cans in our cooler. We spent over $140 for a night at this hotel, it was cost even more than Holiday Inn (with very good FREE deluxe hot breakfast) in Edmonton. Well, this is the only place to stay and what we can do???
