Garden City is locatedwithin the Sealand district of Flintshire in Wales. Despite being called a cityit is, in reality, more like a village, having first been developed as housingfor the workers in the nearby Shotton Steel Works. In common with many suchhousing developments across the UK, dwellings which were initially built toprovide good quality but basic accommodation has, over the years, grown to becomehistorically significant.

Location

Whilst Garden Cityitself is only small and doesn’t boast many tourist or visitor attractions itcan rightfully claim as its own, the appeal to anyone wishing to stay therelies in the fact that it is ideally located for exploring the wider area around the border betweenEngland and Wales. The position of Sealand on the Wirral peninsula, with easilyaccessible road links in both directions, means that there are many towns andcities within easy driving distance of Garden City, including some of the most popular seaside resorts in NorthWales. Whether you’re lookingfor seaside fun, shopping opportunities or a historical exploration, GardenCity is the perfect base to start out from.

Chester

The historic city of Chester is just 5.5 miles awayby car and offers a host of experiences for visitors of all ages. Chesterhas been around in some form for over 2000 years, having first been a RomanSettlement on the banks of the River Dee. It now has four main roads stillbuilt along the original Roman routes and, at 2 miles long, the most completemedieval city walls in Britain. Strolling along the walls allows visitors toexplore the Roman gardens and amphitheatre, as well as the remains of ChesterCastle and boutique designer shops based in original medievalbuildings. Whether they wish to shop, enjoy a gourmet meal or take a cruisedown the river, Chester offers more than enough for a packed day out forvisitors of all ages.

Wales

Take the A548 out of Garden City and into Wales andyou’re soon driving along the coast road, taking in views of the sea to oneside and the Welsh hills and mountains to the other. Before too long, you’ll bereaching some of the UK’s favourite holiday spots.

After 24 miles you’ll reach Prestatyn, home to award winning beaches and rolling sand dunes. From here you could turninward and explore the beautiful Welsh scenery as you head into SnowdoniaNational Park, or explore Prestatyn itself, where the sedate pace oflife encourages relaxation and contemplation.

Just four miles further, via road or a bracingstroll along the beach, and you’ll reach Rhyl,a much more boisterous proposition. Attractions in this seaside resort includethe Suncentre fun pool, the 80 metre high Skytower and the aquarium packed SeaLife Centre. From riding a donkey along the beach to taking a boat trip intothe harbour, Rhyl is especially suited to families with children who needentertaining.

Garden City is truly agateway to some of the finest attractions of Wales and North West England.Within quick and easy traveling distance of Liverpool, Manchester, Chester Zooand racecourse and the beaches and castles along the Welsh coast, it representsa convenient and affordable base for a spot of exploration.
