Great hotel for hiking

We had a lovely time at Höhengasthaus Kolmenhof. The location is beautiful with lots of nice hiking paths around the property. There was as indoor and an outdoor playground for the kids which were great!!! The food at the restaurant was delicious and the staff was friendly and helpful. The room was spacious for a family of 2 adults plus 2 small children and nicely decorated. The only down side is that the restaurant closes for 2 nights a week so one must organize an alternative on these days (they were helpful with good suggestions nearby).

Yummy food, friendly staff

Positives: everything was clean/comfortable, staff friendly/helpful, they decorated a very nice table for our anniversary & the food served (Oschenfleisch for hubby, fresh trout in almond parmesan for me) OMG so tasty it melted in your mouth, we enjoyed every bite. The honey liquor they let us try, yummy!! breakfast, had something for everyone even fresh tea leaves for tea and the Black Forest ham, ummm!! the ladies took very good care of us. WiFi in restaurant/break room. Great walking/bike routes. Dogs allowed in hotel & restaurant. Negatives: hotel is in the middle of nowhere. First night had lots of noise. No WiFi in room. Restaurant closed Wednesday/Thursday nights. It took 3 days to get a perfect hard boiled egg.

High altitude. Snow tires needed in Autumn

We were visiting the black forest to enjoy the autumn leaves. We were not expecting this hotel to be so high up in the mountains where it was snowing. We even checked weather forecast for city listed in address where no snow was mentioned but this is much further up the mountain. Unpaved street leads to hotel which is not plowed for snow. Scary drive. The rooms and accommodations are lovely. Kids enjoyed small play room. Helpful staff. Food was very limited and not good. Milk was spoiled at breakfast. We would have eaten somewhere else but were stranded in the snow...in October!

Super accueil. Belle balade facile à faire dans le coin. Les truites sont excellentes. Chambre comfortable. Moyennant 10euros vous pouvez aller au sauna qui est prévu pour 2 personnes.

Familienfreundliches Hotel

Haben das Hotel als Ausgangsbasis für Ausflüge in der Umgebung genutzt. Sehr familienfreundliche Gastgeber, Restaurant mit sehr leckerem Speiseangebot und Frühstück mit allem was dazu gehört. Ist etwas ab vom Schuss aber direkt am Westweg, 2.5km bis zum Brend Aussichtsturm.

Loved it!

This is a top choice. Know what it is though, this is a rustic gasthous hotel in the middle of hiking and ski country. About 15 beautiful minutes drive to Triberg. Quiet, comforting and good food. We arrived late just after the restaurant closed, but they offered to make us a local cold meat and cheese tray that was awesome. Next night’s dinner also super. Yes we read other review about thin curtains... blah, blah, blah...stay in the Hilton next time. This is splendid country ambiance at its best and is very Germany. Bring your family and enjoy this great place.

This hotel was a bit of a disappointment and we were glad we had only booked one night. Booked the family room with two separate bedrooms, but had to go through the children’s bedroom at night to use the bathroom. Room had a weird musty smell on arrival and so we had to open the windows, which brought in all kinds of bugs unfortunately. Lots of flies in the restaurant and on the food. Breakfast very meager, we arrived before 9 while breakfast was until 10, but it was not replenished (when we asked we were simply told there was no more) and so we did not have any croissants or ham. We had expected more of this place! Reviews seemed good, but we would not recommend. Spend your hard earned money elsewhere!
