The Florida Keys are a series of narrow islands with golden shores on all sides, so beach hotels in the region are in plentiful supply. Find waterfront accommodation at locations all along the Overseas Highway, the road that runs the length of the Florida Keys.
Stay by the ocean on major islands such as Islamorada, Key West and Marathon, where you’ll also find lively towns. Alternatively, find rooms on a smaller key or private island for exclusive beaches occupied only by you and your fellow guests.
The vast number of beach hotels in Florida means that there are options to suit most budgets. Opt for lavish resorts by world-renowned brands or find cosy budget-friendly rooms that overlook a sandy beach.
The waters around Florida Keys are rich with colourful wildlife and any beach stay in the region should include either some snorkelling or diving. Organise an excursion at your hotel or hire kit from a beach hut.
Swim through the shallows to see fish darting in and out of sea grass or travel deeper into the ocean to see sights such as Sombrero Reef and the John Pennekamp Coral Reef. Here, divers may spot sea turtles, rays and even dolphins gliding through the ocean.
Other fun beach activities are available in the Florida Keys. Spend your days playing volleyball or kayaking through the ocean. If you’re feeling brave, seek out high-speed thrills like parasailing or jet-skiing, which you can do near most major Florida Keys’ beach hotels.
The palm trees and fine golden sands of Florida’s beaches create such a picture-perfect setting that you won’t want to leave. Choose a beach hotel that comes with barbecue pits or a beachside bar and you will never have to part from your patch of sand.
Sip on delectable cocktails as the sun sets over the Gulf of Mexico and stoke a fire pit as the evening sets in. Some resorts even offer massages on the beach, so you can pamper yourself and experience total tranquillity by the ocean.
