On the other side of Vila dos Remédios lie tropical bays, including Conceição Beach, Porcos Bay, Sancho Beach and Boldro Beach. Look up to admire the iconic Dois Irmãos Hill from these beaches.
The preservation of sea turtles is ongoing at the Tamar Project. Attend lectures and browse exhibits in the visitor centre to learn about the majestic animals’ plight. Visit the quiet and secluded Sueste Beach on the southern coast for the possibility of feeding the sea turtles and swimming alongside them.
The set of islands takes its name from a merchant who received it as compensation for the service of providing brazilwood. The main island is off the northeastern coast of Brazil, with Natal the nearest major city. There is an environmental fee charged upon arrival via air or boat. Cruises operate from Fortaleza, Natal and Recife with flights from the latter two. Rent a car or buggy to get around the island or use bus services.
