A warm and welcoming stay in the heart of Ely in a lovely pub. The room was gorgeous, beautifully decorated, felt like a bijou apartment, and the bed very cosy indeed with sumptuous bedding. Very quiet, surprising for a pub on a high street . The bar downstairs is cosy with a large menu if needed. The breakfast menu also looked good but we didn’t partake. Highly recommend and would definitely stay again.

The Royal Standard has modern newly refurbished rooms over the pub. These are surprisingly quiet and comfortable. We had a friendly welcome and slept very well. Good bathroom and comfortable bed and a really tasty breakfast to follow. We would definitely stay here again, particularly given the very convenient car park at the back.

Nice room with all modern facilities. Faced out the high street but there is virtually no traffic after 9pm or so, so not a problem. Excellent a/c in the room which was much appreciated because of the hot weather during our stay. Separate entry to the rooms so did not have to go thru bar. We didn’t have breakfast so can’t comment, only remark is that it only opens from 8am for breakfast which won’t suit anyone looking to get away early Recommended

We were generally disappointed with the hotel. We paid for a better bigger room but were placed at the top of the hotel with a reasonably sized room. Lots of furniture in it which made it feel cramped. We think that a smell was being omitted from the air conditioner/ heater. Bathroom was indeed of a make up. Rust marks from the towel rail, mould on the shower walls and in the grouting. The wood was desperately in need of being painted and the loo and basin were on a low ceiling side which meant we were in danger of hitting our head. Window frame in the room was in poor condition and the handle was bent and we couldn’t put it on the hole we wanted to. We woke up to two very condensed windows. Tables were dusty and heavily stained. No long mirror. The bed was very comfortable and a great size. Towels were soft and big enough. The water pressure was ok bearing in near we were at the top of the hotel. Coffee, tea and water supplied. Safe were great, especially at breakfast, which was tasty, except an odd tasting sausage! Parking was excellent and location was exactly what we wanted. It just needs a better clean and an update to warrant the price charged. Would have normally complained but we were in Ely for our fiends funeral so didn’t want to have to cope with any complaints.

Excellent location for exploring Ely; free public car park adjacent to hotel and everything within 10 minutes walk. Room was comfortable and breakfast delicious.
