The town itself is quite compact, making this central location very convenient for exploring on foot.

For couples looking for a relaxed and authentic experience, staying near the Parque Principal is ideal. You'll be able to enjoy the local pace of life, perhaps by having a coffee in one of the cafés overlooking the square, and it's a good base for exploring the nearby natural beauty of the region.

For solo travellers, the town centre provides a comfortable and straightforward base. It's easy to navigate, and you'll find everything you need within a short walk.

The best time to go to El Peñol is during the dry season, which typically runs from December to March and again from July to August.

During these months, you can expect less rainfall and more sunshine, making it ideal for outdoor activities like exploring the town, visiting the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Las Lajas, and enjoying the natural scenery. The weather is generally pleasant, with comfortable temperatures, which is great for sightseeing and experiencing the local culture without the disruption of heavy downpours.

For travellers who prefer a quieter experience and don't mind the occasional shower, the shoulder seasons – April, May, June, and September, October, November – can also be good. While there's a higher chance of rain, you'll often find fewer crowds and potentially better value on accommodation.
