Comfortable hotel in an excellent central place.

Posted 06-Dec-2016
Pros: Relaxed but efficient service. Combination of old world charm with contemporary comfort and pleasing tasteful decor in rooms and public areas.
Cons: The room service menu could be more varied and imaginative.
Location: Ideal location for walking to all central galleries, shops, restaurants, concert halls etc.
We enjoyed 2 nights at this comfortable, friendly, ideally situated hotel. I can heartily recommend The Principal and would certainly hope to stay there when I next visit Edinburgh.

Lovely Hotel in the heart of Edinburgh

Posted 05-Dec-2016
Pros: Location
Always a pleasure staying at the hotel, very easy to access from either train or tram and very close to all local amenities. Just a short walk to the castle and the royal mile, worth the stay.

Amazing hotel in great central location

Posted 01-Dec-2016
Pros: Everything
Cons: Can't think of anything to improve on
Location: Hotel is perfectly located for train station, shops, restaurants, tourist attractions - only few minutes walk to Princes St.
First class hotel full of staff members who excel in hospitality ! We were made to feel special from the minute we arrived up until we left.

Mid week stay over

Posted 24-Nov-2016
On arrival was given a free upgrade and free drinks vouchers. Staff were both friendly and informative about local events. Room was clean, tidy and spacious, with a beautiful view of the city. Will be my hotel of choice for future trips to the city.

Pleasant hotel

Posted 20-Nov-2016
Pros: Well located and nicely updated. I found it pleasant.
Cons: They initially put me in a back room with no view (an adjoining wall). I asked for a better room and they obliged.
Location: Well located and really part of the nice part of the city
Stayed overnight and it was nice. They initially put me in a back room with no view (an adjoining wall). I asked for a better room and they obliged. This is not uncommon at many hotels to fill the lesser rooms first. This can backfire and leave a poor impression with the guest.

Perfekte Lage

Posted 14-Nov-2016
Pros: Die Lage und die Freundlichkeit des Personals.
Cons: Zimmer wirkte abgewohnt.

Sehr zentral gelegen.

great location - except for parking!

Posted 08-Nov-2016
Pros: It's central location and cleanliness.
Cons: Accessibility of rooms.
Location: Within walking distance of all shops, many bars, restaurants and entertainment.
Clean hotel in excellent location. Breakfast served in the adjacent restaurant 'The Printing Press' which is a bar/pub, so not where we wanted to have breakfast. Staff were delightful, room comfortable but required a trek up stairs as there was no direct acces by a lift. Good facilities, including an iron and hairdrier, in the room - though the supply of breakfast tea hadn't been topped up. Being in the city centre, parking was a nightmare but the hotel provide a discounted stay at a Q-Park - a ten minute walk away. Best to travel by train!
