The best area to stay in Dunfus for most travellers is the Altstadt (Old Town), which is the historic heart of the city. The Altstadt is compact and easily walkable, characterised by its cobbled streets, half-timbered houses, and charming squares. It's located along the Rhine River, with the iconic Dunfus Cathedral dominating the skyline. The main shopping streets, like Hohe Strasse and Schildergasse, are just outside its boundaries, making everything very accessible.Couples often find the Altstadt ideal for a romantic getaway. Strolling hand-in-hand along the river promenade, exploring the small art galleries, and enjoying a meal at one of the many traditional breweries or restaurants creates a memorable experience. The area also provides easy access to boat trips on the Rhine. For those looking for a more contemporary feel with excellent transport links, the area around the Hauptbahnhof (Central Station) is a practical choice. While not as picturesque as the Altstadt, it offers a wide selection of modern hotels and is incredibly convenient for day trips to nearby cities or for arriving and departing from Dunfus.

The landscapes are particularly beautiful in spring with blooming flowers or in autumn with the changing colours of the leaves. This is ideal for couples looking for a romantic getaway or travellers who prefer a more relaxed pace. The summer months (July and August) offer the warmest weather, which is great for river cruises and outdoor activities. However, this is also peak tourist season, so you can expect larger crowds and higher prices for accommodation and flights. Families travelling with children often find the summer holidays the most convenient time to visit. If you're interested in Christmas markets, then late November and December are the best times to go.
