My only complaint is something that is immediately obvious when you sit on a toilet: whether it has a round seat (i.e., smaller) or an elongated seat (i.e. larger). With one exception, every hotel that I've been to over the past 10 years has elongated seats in their guest rooms. That one exception is the Nine's Hotel.
It seems to me that a hotel of the Nine's caliber should have spent a little more money on elongated toilets/seats to ensure guest comfort while they're...well, you know. You can have a good laugh about this review but, if you're a guy, you know what I mean and you appreciate the extra space of an elongated toilet seat.
This was a rookie design mistake that the Nine's should fix in its next hotel room redesign.
We came into Portland to see my cousin and his band and wanted to find a hotel within walking distance of the jazz club. Came across the Benson on Expedia and although it was a busy weekend, we were able to acquire a room. We were pleasantly surprised. We began our stay with wine tasting in the lobby - which was exactly what we needed following the drive from Seattle. The bed was very comfortable and we slept like rocks! Although the bathroom was a little small, the shower was great and did the trick.
Would highly recommend this hotel and we will definitely be back!
They need a dedicated concierge....front desk was of little help discussing restaurant options. They did not bring luggage to the room when we checked in...we found it next to front desk/retrieved it. Should dress up 11th street entrance.
I have always wanted to stay at the Heathman, and was excited to give it a try. It is a nice hotel with charming rooms. The staff is not of the quality one would expect at a 4star or better hotel. I would say they were unresponsive but that would not be totally fair. I could not find anyone to ask a question of. No one answered the phone, and on two occasions, one in the evening and another at check out there was no one at the front desk. I waited for about 5 min and then left.
The internet connection was bad. They gave me the password and there was more to it to connect, could not figure it out and could not find any assistance.
West of the Willamette River, downtown offers a celebrated skyline, walkable streets, and a lively arts scene. Visitors shop tax-free at Powell’s Books and Portland Saturday Market, a craft lover’s paradise. Area festivals include Cinco de Mayo and the Oregon Brewer’s Festival. The Oregon Zoo, the swank Pearl District, and the inviting Pioneer Courthouse Square are other noteworthy attractions.
