Pocket Guide: Family-Friendly Hotelss in Dorset

Spending time with your family is an important part of any time away from the stresses and strains of daily life. With acres of outstanding countryside, the rugged charms of the Jurassic Heritage Coast and a host of delightful attractions, Dorset has long been a popular destination for those with children. While many exclusive hotels won't cater for children, there's plenty of family-friendly accommodation in Dorset, ranging from warm and welcoming mid-range hotels to luxury establishments that promise to show your family a slice of the high-life.

I Do Like To Be Beside The Seaside: Family-Friendly Hotels In Dorset

When it comes to attractions, Dorset's beaches must take centre-stage. The Jurassic Coast offers archaeologists of all ages the chance to uncover fossils and learn about the prehistoric creatures that once called the county home. For traditional seaside adventures, Weymouth Beach and Bournemouth Beach are packed with old-school fun, such as donkey-rides, Punch and Judy shows and sandcastle competitions. Bournemouth Pier even has the world's first pier-to-shore zip wire, for families who like a little shot of adrenaline thrown into the mix.

Keeping An Eye On The Budget

Both Bournemouth and Weymouth are popular with families and there are plenty of hotels to choose from. If you're staying in Bournemouth and want to keep the costs down, then there are a good number of inexpensive hotels, such as the Chine Hotel and the Hallmark Hotel Bournemouth Carlton. Weymouth is also well served by mid-price hotels, such as the Langham Hotel.

Towns To Explore

However, while Bournemouth and Weymouth are big hitters with families, there are plenty of other towns with equally exciting things to see and do. Tower Park, in Poole, is a massive leisure and entertainment complex that was the first of its kind, when it was built in the late 1980s. Poole also boasts Poole Harbour, on which families can get down to some serious water sports such as kayaking, kitesurfing and sailboarding. If you're looking to treat your family to a truly luxurious break, the Sandbanks Hotel is a fine example of some of the top-end hotels in the county.

Dorset is a fabulous county for family holidays and offers innumerable activities and attractions. Whether you want an unpretentious base from which to explore the region or want to live it up in the lap of luxury, there's accommodation to suit all tastes and all budgets.
