This central area offers convenient access to the village's limited facilities. You'll find accommodation options that put you within a short walk or drive of the local general store and any dining establishments. It's also the most practical base for exploring the surrounding Kauri Coast.

For travellers looking to experience the natural beauty of the region, staying close to the Waipoua Forest entrance, a short drive north of Donnellys Crossing, is ideal. This allows for early access to the forest's walking tracks and iconic kauri trees, such as Tāne Mahuta.

During this period, the average daily temperatures range from 20°C to 25°C, providing comfortable conditions for exploring the Waipoua Forest and its ancient Kauri trees, such as Tāne Mahuta. The longer daylight hours also mean you have more time to enjoy the natural beauty of the area. Alternatively, for those who prefer a quieter experience with milder temperatures, the shoulder seasons of autumn (March to May) and spring (September to November) are excellent choices. Temperatures hover around 15°C to 20°C, and there are fewer crowds.
