To really get an understanding of the present, you need to return to the past. Fujian's fascinating old towns are a marvellous place to start.
If the sun is shining during your stay, get outside. Swimming and rafting are just two ways the locals like to cool off here.
Making the time to memorize some words the local language separates the real travelers from the mere tourists. "Nǐ yào bú yào gēn wǒ tiàowǔ" is a good phrase to know. In English, it means "Would you like todance with me?" "This gentleman/lady will pay for everything" is also useful, so practice saying "Zhèiwèi xiānsheng huì qīngdān"
At the end of your vacation, bid a fond Zàijiàn (farewell) to the interesting people you've met and the great places you've seen.
