Dijon, the former capital of the Dukes of Burgundy and a city of a hundred spires, is now a tourist destination and a mecca for foodies!

The tourist appeal of the capital of Burgundy is two-fold, with cultural tourism, associated with the city's rich history, and culinary tourism. So don't miss out on enjoying both!

Dijon will delight lovers of architecture and places of worship, with over a dozen churches and chapels in a range of styles to visit and admire. You can explore the Église Saint-Étienne de Dijon, today home to the library of the Musée des Beaux-arts, the baroque Église Sainte-Anne with its dome, where you can visit the Musée d'art sacré de Dijon, or even the chapel of the Couvent des Carmélites, the first female monastery in Dijon. To get away from the religious side of things while remaining firmly in history, you can admire the ruins of the Castrum de Dijon, whose tower, the Tour du Petit Saint-Bénigne, is one of its last remnants. And, of course, we must mention the Palace of the Dukes and Estates of Burgundy, which was home to the Dukes of Burgundy and still remains one of the city's must-see buildings.

And if this historic tour whets your appetite, don't worry! Dijon won't disappoint! After all, the city is an internationally renowned culinary Mecca with numerous Michelin-starred restaurants, as well as being known for its international gastronomy fair.

Dijon is famous for local specialities such as Burgundy snails, beef bourguignon, œufs en meurette, not to mention the world-famous hot Dijon mustard. You'll be spoilt for choice!

To accompany these culinary delights, what better than an introduction to the art of wine tasting? As Dijon is a wine-producing area and on the Route des Grands Crus, a number of visits and tours are on offer to explore the region's many wines.

Dijon is well placed on the road network, so can be easily reached from Paris, Lille, Belgium, Luxembourg, Strasbourg, Germany and Geneva. If you prefer travelling by train, Dijon is conveniently situated on the Rhine-Rhône high-speed rail line and can also be reached via the Eurostar, changing at Paris.
