One night stay to experience the Periyar reserve close by. Our room was enormous and located near the very back of the property. Sadly building works are directly next to the property so we heard angle grinding. Mgr tried to stop them but only the rain did. Staff amazing. Food delicious. Great cocktails and beers. We took a 2 day houseboat from Alleppey booked through the resort (beware of cheaper houseboats that will disappoint you) and had the experience of a lifetime.It was simply amazing to be able to experience and share the daily lives of the people who live by the backwaters. Our onboard chef catered for all our needs and was always going that extra mile.When we docked at the Resort the 5* service continued.Everyone should do this - you will never regret this journey. Lovely, well maintained hotel, pool and gardens . The staff committed , knowledgeable and friendly. Dinners in the History restaurant were without exception delicious, especially the First Class Railway Mutton Curry which was outstanding. These were preceded by a visit to the bar, over which knowledgeable barmen preside. All in all, a wonderful stay and the next door ferry was never a problem for us, indeed we think we will miss the throbbing motor which we found quite comforting.

Out of the four Taj hotels that we stayed in, Bekal offers the best value for money with amazing villas. I was concerned that the backwaters may have meant lots of insects but this wasn’t the case. The gardens with an amazing variety of birds, the sea food restaurant by the beach, the pool, everything is beautiful

It was a really beautiful room with the lovely ocean scenery. We can hear the sounds of waves.

Its a gem of a restaurant. The only issue if any is that the hallways smell of smoke on the 11th floor. Great rooms, lovely service, great breakfast, snacks are easily available downstairs and the front desk went above and beyond! This is my second stay here and hopefully is going to be my place to stay every two years when i visit extended family in calicut.
