The South Esk amongst moraine The flat bottom of the U-shaped valley of Glen Clova is at several point almost choked by moraine. At this point the river winds its way amongst large moraine composed of deposits of sand and boulders. This area probably marks one of the most recent areas of glacial activity during the Lochlomond stadial period.

Glen Clova In the foreground is the River South Eask, still frozen over upstream of the bridge. In the background is Ben Reid (796 metres) in NO3175. With the eye of faith, you might just be able to spot a fragment of masonry, all that remains of Clova Castle, to the left of the white house at the left-hand end of the sparse line of trees in the middle distance.

Looking towards Inchdowrie Only the foreground here is in square. Inchdowrie is at the far side of the glen. The hill on the left is Ben Reid (796 metres) and Loch Brandy is hidden in the corrie beneath the cliffs to its right. The highest point is Green Hill (870 metres).
