Good location in the touristy Grassmarket area. Simple standard rooms that mostly fit our needs. Breakfast was served in adjacent bar. Road construction while we were there threw off the vibe though.

1st and best: you could not find a more helpful, professional and lovely staff.
2nd: The Scotsman is a step away from The Royal Mile: so museums, the Castle, Holyrood, restaurants, St. Giles,etc. Walking is easy. Shopping is a given.
One thing to know about The Scotsman: there are stairs. The lift is in the process of repair so there are lots of stairs.
But that being said: staff will help with all of it.

The room was nice, view's are spectacular. However the hotel itself is tired needs updating even just a lick of pain, new flooring etc would work. Beautiful walks and grounds.
