My husband and I stayed at Dyers House for our last night in New Zealand after a 10 day tour staying in hostels. It was wonderful to have a very spacious bedroom and bathroom with an absolutely beautiful view of Christchurch. Angie and Barry were amazing hosts, making us feel welcome immediately upon arrival (and even before arrival via email), preparing a wonderful breakfast, giving activity recommendations, and driving us downtown to start our day. My only complaint is that I noticed cat hairs on the bed and in the bathroom. My husband is allergic to cats (though I'm not sure he noticed as he didn't say anything...but he didn't sleep well either so that may have been the cause). The house is only about 15 min from city central. There is a cool restaurant 10 minutes walk from the house in a "Scottish castle". The house is gorgeous, full of victorian character and splendor. It is set on a hill above Christchurch so you have amazing views of the whole city. After checking in late due to a long day of driving and going on a penguin tour in Banks Peninsula, both the hosts Angie and Barry were extremely gracious in letting us check out a little later so we could get a little bit more rest. The room itself was gorgeous - we had the garden room with a splendid view of the flowers and the city below - with a very spacious bathroom. The room had some complimentary snacks and furnished with anything you might need (hair dryer, toiletries, etc.) A fridge in the hallway had some complimentary drinks as well which was very thoughtful. The bed was comfy with many warm layers to snuggle under. Breakfast was an delicious spread of cereals, pastries, toasts, fruits, cold cuts, cheeses, and lox. We had an amazing time sitting and chatting with Angie and Barry around the breakfast table - made it feel a lot like home! Breakfast was the equivalent of a cold continental breakfast (cold cereals, yogurt, fruit etc).
