I had booked a superior studio with kitchenette. After I checked in I discovered that I was not in the room that I had booked. The motel manager offered no apology, blaming Expedia for the error, and due to the motel being full it was only possible to move to the correct room on my second night. As a result I had to eat breakfast out on the first morning, at extra expense. I was offered a free bottle of wine when I moved to booked room, but I could not accept it because I am allergic to wine - and I would not be less critical of the motel if I had been able to accept it. The room I had booked was a superior studio with kitchenette. It was equipped with a microwave, 8 dinner plates, 2 side plates, but *no* bowls. 4 wine glasses, 2 tumblers, 2 espresso-sized cups, but only one mug. 3 knives, 4 forks, but only 1 tablespoon, and *no* teaspoons. A bottle opener, but no can opener. No sharp knife, chopping board or other dishes & utensils. No tea towel for drying dishes (I used a towel from the shower room). Comfortable bed, good shower but a long wait for hot water, good a/c, quiet area at night. The safe in the room is tiny - only suitable to store cash, jewellery or phone-sized items. Free parking is directly behind the motel in reserved spaces numbered 17 to 24, or on the north side of Penbury St. There is a small supermarket next door to the motel. I would not stay here again, but it is probably fine if you are staying in a standard room and they don’t screw up your booking.

The room stunk of cigarette smoke when I entered, even though the posted sign says non-smoking area. The room didn’t have a window to open, which had been advertised, but the problem was there was no way to air it out. I told the manager, who came in and sprayed a deodorizer, which surprisingly helped a lot, but just masked the smell rather than eliminate it. No face cloth was provided. The room was good in every other way.

The room we were given was not what we booked. Had a blocked toilet so was moved and was still not we had booked. Bedroom was window was backed right onto a Japanese restaurant. So very noisy at meal times. No room service.

There was no detergent for washing the dishes The shower needs a good clean Did not like having to wait on Colombo St for person to check us in Room clean and spacious. He fixed the Heat pump so all good good parking

Very friendly and hearty welcome and service throughout our stay. We were upgraded to a better room without even asking. Fairly basic building and location a 10 min walk out of town (city centre ends very abruptly, and you find yourself in a semi industrial district) so dont expect fancy sourroundings, hence the good price. Can recommend if you are on a budget and want something solid, clean and comfy, but dont need luxury.

The room was clean, and the staff was especially nice and accommodating. The room was a good size and had a very good shower. The Japanese restaurant downstairs was very good and authentic. I was not pleased with the location of the hotel. Although it is on Colombo Street, which leads directly to the cathedral, it is a long walk, half of it through a not good area. was not comfortable walking it later in the evening. Perhaps there is a bus into town, but I did not investigate.

A reliably pleasant stay
We arrived after dark and the manager was already waiting for us. He was friendly and knowledgeable about local food outlets. Free on-site parking is a big plus. The room was, as always, warm and clean. Additional items that would have enhanced my stay – a shower cap and a small microwave.

This hotel far exceeded our expectations! We were looking for simple, clean, safe and affordable for a one night stay, walkable to the city. Our vehicle was being serviced the next day. We thought the room Might be a bit noisy with the hotel being on a Main Street. But our room was super quiet, far back off the main road. The reviews were good, so this was it, Putu is a perfect host. He responded to my call fron the parking at the back door immediately- (the parking is around the block behind the hotel). He was friendly, professional, and offered good advice for dinner then breakfast nearby. The room was bigger than we expected based on reviews and had everything we need. The bathroom beautifully renovated. We would absolutely stay here again! Great value for money.

A few suggestions from customers in Rm 7 on Sat ni
We stayed in Room 7 unfortunately there was no remote for the television and the electric blanket in the cupboard was for a double bed (there were 2 single beds in room) and didn't work when i plugged it in. Also when i tried to ring the staff by dialing 0 it advised it was disconnected? The vanity tap water supply is not much more than a dribble too.

The room was tiny, previous guest food still in the fridge, bedside clock covered in grime/dust and no parking that I'm aware of. No one on reception, you have to press a button to see someone. On check out I had to wait around 15 minutes for attention. I checked out the next day and went somewhere else.

The rooms were spotless and clean. However the website didn't indicate that some of the rooms didn't appear to have windows. i was put into a room that had a window measuring 150mm X 350mm. no light came through and you couldn't open it. notwithstanding, i asked to move rooms and the next day i put into an excellent room which i thoroughly enjoyed.

the good with the bad, but not that bad.
The good: value, very clean, nice people The bad:spent a few dollars more for a room with a window "courtyard view". In other words the window opened onto the restaurant patio, so very noisy. The carpet in the room must have come from a hostel, gross. Top notch cleaning staff to get a carpet with that many stains and burns so clean. I would consider returning.

We did not have a great experience. There's no where to pull up and unload bags because hotel is along roadside parking. The check-in area is basically in a stairwell, and has a tiny desk tucked under the stairwell with a horrible smell. When we finally checked in, we were given a room key that didn't work and had to go back and forth to the stairwell desk 4 times to get the key to work. The room had old comforters and pillows with hair all over them and no windows as advertised in photos. Parking lot in the back is very sketch and unsafe looking and parking spots are 100 yards away from back door of lodge. Now, over a month after staying there I am getting random charges of over $100 from the lodge when the room was paid for through expedia. So there is no reason we should be getting ANY charges for our 1 nights stay. This place seems to keep switching ownership and now I am going to have to dispute the charge through my card because no one will resolve the issue at the lodge. I recommend expedia remove this property from its list ASAP!

Colombo Lodge
The hotel is located in a light industrial area of town. There is no view to be had at all from this hotel; indeed my room didn't have a window (which was carefully a d clearly disclosed at booking so no foul there). That said, Christchurch is not very big so it's still easy to walk to the centre and find good restaurants (or one of the three McDonald's nearby, if that's your thing). The hotel is on the minimalist side of the spectrum. Fittings are nice enough but it's missing things like bedside tables or a reading lamp over the bed, which are pretty normal at other hotels. The two staff I interacted with were helpful and pleasant; check-in and checkout were quick and smooth. They let me check out a couple hours late with no fuss too.

Decent hotel if you are on a Budget
Overall my stay was good. The bed was very comfortable. The room was spacious and the location was pretty quiet. The room was clean when i checked in. But the daily maid service was not that good. The shower was great. great water pressure and plenty of hot water. The wifi was spotty and the room was very drafty (it got cold quickly). So over all I would rate this hotel as a 3.3.

Scary part of town. NOT in city center.
The hotel was fairly new. No windows but did have two skylights to add light. While the room was small, it was nice. Downside is this hotel does not seem to be in a good part of town. No restaurants nearby and would not even think about going out after dark.

The motel is new and clean but the bathroom doesn't have any window. It's not too far from center town and you can park your car. Nice stay.

Ye was very accommodating including allowing a late unplanned checkout. The rooms was very clean, quiet and private. Hotel is in a convenient location, just a short 10 mins stroll to the CBD.

Only there 1 night, studio room NO WINDOWS, felt like a concrete box. Front Entrance to lodge terrible , like walking into a broom cupboard and greeted by a scruffy lookin guy in barefeet.
