Just OK

Posted 26-Jun-2017
Pros: The staff are very friendly
We were originally on the 5th floor in a very small room. The pictures make the room seem very clean and modern but we were very disappointed with the look. It's a very old hotel and thus the room reflects it. We asked to be moved as the outside noise was so loud (we could hear people having a conversation outside). They moved us to the 17 floor where it was much quieter but the hallway noise was very loud, not very sound proof. The shower head had no pressure which made it difficult to shower. Staff was very friendly and accommodating.

Other than the room not being ready at check in, I'd stay there again.

Great hotel!

Posted 15-Jun-2017
Pros: It is very updated, clean, & has a friendly staff! We arrived early and was able to store our luggage in a safe place in the hotel until we needed it!
Cons: Make sure there are enough wash cloths in the rooms.
Location: It is very close to shopping on Michigan Ave. and one can walk to many wonderful restaurants nearby!
The Whitehall Hotel is conveniently located near Michigan Avenue and to wonderful restaurants. It is very clean, has a very friendly and helpful staff! It has a wonderful restaurant on the main floor of the hotel. We always enjoy eating breakfast there! I would recommend it to anyone who wants a lot for their money.

Not to be confused as a "diamond in in the rough"

My husband and I waited three years to allow ourselves a vacation and it ended up a sub par at this historic hotel. Both my husband and I are easy-going, common people understand unfortunate circumstances, unfortunately we had multiple unfortunate circumstances that were being swept under the rug by management. As we knew how, we followed the chain of command regarding the small, out dated room, a shower where the water temp could not be regulated, and mysterious insect bites neither of us remember going to bed with. We spoke to Expedia following our fist night requesting simpley to be relocated to another hotel in the area so we could finish out our over due vacation in peace, but twice an Expedia representative said they would contact the hotel manager and call us back only to have us wait around for no results. Hours later we contact Expedia for a third time and we get the same response, except this representative reads previous documentation stating "the manager will call in 30 minutes with further cancellation details", but again, no results. So, we take it a bit further. When we return to our hotel, my husband requests to speak with the manager and attempts to lead on about the situation, but the front desk says "the manager is out, she will call your room in 30 minutes". Foolishly, we waste more time waiting patiently to be swept a bit further under the rug for a total of two hours. The next day we stay the process over and are refunded 1 night we did not stay.

Served its purpose but that's about it.

We were visiting the city over Memorial Day weekend and hadn't stayed at this hotel before. When we stepped out of the elevator on the 12th floor I noticed right away that it smelled musty in the hallway. The room itself was ok but there's very minimal outlets. I had to plug my phone in to charge overnight in the bathroom yet was using it as the alarm clock for each morning. There is also very little counter space in the bathroom. The AC was on when we got there but throughout our stay, it never got down below a consistent 73 degrees despite being set at 66 degrees. They did send engineering up to look at it on Sunday night and he flipped the sensor switch and did it should take care of the situation but that didn't work. There is a fully stocked refrigerator in the room so I asked at the front desk if there's one we could actually use and the girl said she'd have one delivered to the room. I told her that it was ok, she didn't have to do that and her response was, "Well, I'm not going to charge you!" in a snippy tone. This hotel accepts animals which is really nice. However, or last night's stay, there was a dog in the room next to us that barked throughout the night. I know that part wasn't the hotel's issue but it was frustrating.

Foodservice-Check in

Posted 28-May-2017
There was no dining room. Took 20 minures to check in, as computer was down, and no one was helping at front desk on the 2nd computer. Help finally arrived. We enjoyed our stay.
