Once you’ve landed, the best way to get into the city centre is via the special airport bus service. This connects Seville Airport to Plaza de Armas, a central bus station at the heart of the city. The journey is about 35 minutes and buses run regularly, from the early hours to late at night. You can also grab a taxi, which you’ll available right outside the terminal building.
As Spain’s fourth largest city, Seville also boasts an excellent public transport system. This comprises buses, trams, lights trains and an underground metro. One of the must-see sights in Seville is Real Alcazar, a grand Moorish residence that was home to city’s former Muslim rulers.
Islamic influence is reflected throughout the city, and no more is this evident than in Seville Cathedral. Incorporating elements of the common mosque, including the Tower of Gold (Torre de Oro) this dates back to the 8th century. It is now home to the city’s Naval Museum.
In addition, Seville also has a fantastic selection of interesting museums, including the Museum of Fine Arts, considered to be one of the most important art galleries in Spain.
No trip to Seville would be complete without experiencing a little flamenco, a flamboyant art form that finds its origins here. While the Museum of Flamenco will provide you with an excellent history of this regional dance, nothing quite beats seeing it in the flesh. For that, we recommend finding a local flamenco ‘tablaos’ (of which you will be spoiled for choice) where you can enjoy a little authentic local culture while tucking in to some tapas and some local wine. Salud!
