Getting to Koh Phangan from UK Airports
Despite Koh Phangan’s relatively remote location, getting to the island is more straightforward than you might think. A handful of airlines, including British Airways and Thai Airways, offer good value direct flights from London Heathrow to Bangkok, taking around 11 hours 30 minutes, with quick onward connections to the neighbouring island of Koh Samui. Many more airlines offer flights to Bangkok with one stop en route, including alternative options from London Gatwick and Manchester. Once you’re in Koh Samui, hop on the regular ferry or catamaran service that transports passengers to the entry points of Thong Sala or Haad Rin on Koh Phangan.
Alternatively, you could book a cheap connecting flight from Bangkok to Surat Thani Airport on the mainland, which is a major transit point for holidaymakers en route to the Gulf of Thailand’s islands. From here, you can purchase a combined bus/car ferry ticket or a combined bus/catamaran ticket and be transferred directly to Thong Sala Pier on Koh Phangan. Or you could make your own way to the ferry terminal by taxi, and purchase a ticket to Koh Phangan when you arrive.
Other Destinations to Combine with Koh Phangan
You could also combine your trip to Koh Phangan with another destination. Use Expedia to book direct flights from other Thai destinations such as Phuket, Chiang Mai or Krabi to Koh Samui, and then travel onwards to Koh Phangan by ferry. Or instead of Bangkok, fly directly into Koh Samui from another major Asian hub city such as Kuala Lumpur, Singapore or Hong Kong.
Currently, travellers from the UK do not need a visa to visit Thailand for stays not exceeding 30 days.
Once in Koh Phangan, make the most of everything this tropical island has to offer. Spend some time diving or snorkelling at one of the island’s major dive sites, jump on a boat trip to the Ang Thong National Marine Park, or take a demanding hike to the highest mountain peak of Khao Ra, at 630 metres above sea level. Or simply lay back and enjoy some of the finest beaches in all of Thailand, including Bottle Beach on the north coast, or Mae Haad and Haad Salad on the west coast.
Whichever destination you choose to make your base, Expedia’s range of Koh Phangan accommodation will have you covered, whether you’re seeking elegant seclusion in a luxury five star hotel, a solid family friendly resort by the beach, or a good value backpacker hostel. And if you book both your flight and accommodation together, you could be in for some considerable savings!
