"Heaven on Earth. The Maison de Marquay is the heart of the Dordogne. It is the most pleasant hotel I have ever stayed in. "The gite was as described, perfect for the two of us for a relaxing holiday. Very rural but all amenities not far away. Beautiful location, clean and all you need in the gite, lovely hosts, very friendly and helpful. Would thoroughly recommend a stay, we hope to go back soon."
"Very good indeed. Very friendly, excellent breakfast, bedroom and bathroom looked New, country location near forest and 5 minutes drive from the lovely Sarlat town. We're Dutch and we chatted easily in English with the owners."
"We are a family of four and this Summer we spent a fabulous time at Tamnies. The accommodation is perfectly located between Montignac/Lascaux and Sarlat and has a lot to offer: spacious apartments in beautifully restored farm buildings, a pool and lots of grounds for kids to play. All together a ..."
"Arrivés à 19H30, nous étions épuisés par de nombreuses heures de route. Nous avons pu nous restaurer sur place avec de délicieux plats locaux au restaurant de l'auberge sans avoir réservé. L'accueil a été chaleureux sans en faire trop comme nous l'aimons. La chambre très propre et la literie ferme ..."

Gone to Heaven
"Heaven on Earth. The Maison de Marquay is the heart of the Dordogne. It is the most pleasant hotel I have ever stayed in. It is tiny and you are a member of a very close nit family headed by Marie-Laure and Gerard who make sure you are supremely well cared for. There is absolute privacy if you wish or delightful company if you choose.
The hotel is not as old as it appears but is filled with beautiful antiques and charm. Marie-Laure and Gerard rebuilt the Maison to their high standards when they opened it about 10-12 years ago. They are the owners, chief operators, chef, concierge, and all around wonderful hosts. There are not many dining options in Marquay. The breakfast was out of this world, they do not have a formal evening meal but the petit dinette was great. I cannot say enough about how much we enjoyed our stay at the Maison de Marquary.
Marquay is centrally located in the triangle formed by Sarlat, Lascaux, and Les Eyzies and is a perfect base for exploring the Dordogne and the prehistoric caves of the area. The town itself is tiny and spectacular and dead silent. The views of the country side are awesome.
If you want to get away yet stay in the modern world, Marquay and the Maison de Marquay are the starting point. I hope I get the chance to go back many times."
"Extremely charming spot--the location is not only central, it's right on the both the river and the main square and across the street from the museum; A very cozy and comfortable hotel with super friendly staff. Upsides far outweigh the down sides (Short on in-room amenities and you should skip the lousy breakfast (coffee from a vending machine)). Unfortunately the restaurant was not open for dinner and we were not able to experience what we heard is the wonderful food. Price is very very reasonable for the the overall experience. Would definitely stay again next time we are in the region."

"Check in was a bit of a hassle and they required a 300 euro deposit that they conveniently forgot to refund after checking out that we had to call a few days later to sort out. The room wasn’t that clean when we checked in and you have to make the beds yourself with sheets provided. They require you to strip the beds before you check out and have room inspected by the housekeeper to see if you cleaned up to their satisfaction. We felt like we were working for them rather than the other way around. The biggest problem there was the lack of sufficient parking and you have to fend for yourself if you go out for dinner and come back to a lot that is packed beyond capacity. The kids enjoyed the pool and it was ok for a night, but I would not go back."
