174 A Saint Philip Street, Unit 2- The John Bulow House

The land (lot 33) on which this remarkable building was constructed was acquired by John Jochim Bulow in 1834 from the Rowland Rugely (1734-1776) estate. Bulow, a prosperous merchant and planter owned extensive real estate holdings on the peninsula as well as in the upstate and in Mississippi.

Constructed in 1922, this Victorian building, now known as 174 A, showcases exquisite ornate trim, expansive
 porches, bay windows, and a vibrant exterior color.
 The high ceilings and large windows allow ample natural
 light to flood the spacious interiors.

This is not a typical short-term rental; it is not a newly constructed unit in an old neighborhood, nor is it situated on a tiny lot in a questionable or remote area. The old hardwood floors, tall ceilings, original moldings, plasterwork, windows and doors exude a special warmth, character, and charm that that is very difficult to achieve in new construction.

What a delightful apartment. It was beautifully decorated & furnished. Everything was as pictured and promised. A very nice surprise were the several outdoor seating areas with softly flowing fountains, all separated by low hedges for privacy. Location is idea for walking or driving. Parking area and courtyards are lovely and made for a nice private location. House was clean and beds were comfy. Internet was sporadic but we weren’t working so it wasn’t an issue. I would rent this again!
